Aussie Burger with Beetroot image

Origins of Australian burgers with sliced beets (beetroot) is unclear, but beetroot on burgers had its heyday in the '50s and '60s. McDonald's even once promoted their version of a beet burger called the McOz!! Some folks like their beet pickled, most like it right out of the can! Adding pineapple adds a completely different...

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 egg
1/4 tsp salt, or to taste
1/8 tsp pepper, or to taste
1/2 c breadcrumbs
1 lb ground beef
1 can(s) sliced beets
tomato, lettuce, onions, cheese slices, pineapple rings
4 hamburger buns, the soft white kind
butter, for buns, optional

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together first 5 ingredients. Grill or pan fry until desired doneness.
  • 2. Before burgers are done, butter cut surfaces of bun and grill for a minute or two.
  • 3. Serve burgers on toasted buns, with several slices of beets on each burger, then add other toppings as desired.
