Slow Cooker Sweet & Spicy Short Ribs image

This recipe uses boneless beef short ribs, but you can use bone-in -- just remove bones at the end of the cooking process.

2/3 c a p flour
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
4 - 4 1/2 lb boneless beef short ribs (or 6-7 lbs. bone-in beef ribs)
oil or butter
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 c beef broth
3/4 c wine or cider vinegar
1/2 - 3/4 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c chili sauce (heinz or other brand)
1/3 c ketchup
1/3 c worcestershire sauce (or to your taste)
5 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 tsp chili powder

Steps:

  • 1. Spray interior of crockpot with vegetable spray.
  • 2. Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a plastic gallon bag. Add ribs, a few at a time, and shake to coat.
  • 3. Brown meat in a small amount of oil or butter in batches in a skillet. Remove and transfer to slow cooker. Reserve drippings.
  • 4. Combine remaining ingredients in the skillet. Stir ingredients with drippings until mixture comes to a boil. Pour over ribs.
  • 5. Cook on low 9-10 hours or until meat is tender, but not dry. Watch carefully.
  • 6. Serve ribs topped with sauce.
