I live in Texas, where folks take pride in their chili, but I'm from NJ and Chili is not a regional dish there, so my earliest influences of chili were from eating it at the fast food restaurant, Wendy's. Number Of Ingredients 18

2 lb ground beef
1 large yellow onion, chopped
2 Tbsp minced fresh garlic (from a jar)
2 large bell peppers, any color
2 finely diced habaneros
3 finely diced jalapenos
3 or 4 whole chili peppers, seeds removed
2 Tbsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp cumin
2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 to 3 c chunky tomato sauce (i'm using sunday gravy)
3 can(s) bush's best chili beans
1 can(s) kidney beans

Steps:

  • 1. fry meat until browned, add onions, garlic and peppers. cook for about 3 minutes then add spices and tomato sauce.
  • 2. transfer to crock pot, add canned beans and simmer for 3 hours.
  • 3. Remove whole chili peppers.Serve over rice with shredded cheddar cheese.
