Apple Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting image

1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. butter, softened, divided
1 Granny Smith apple, shredded (about 1 cup)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla, divided
4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Beat brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Add apples, egg and 1/2 tsp. vanilla; mix well. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
  • Drop dough into 24 mounds, 2 inches apart, on baking sheets sprayed with cooking spray, using about 2 Tbsp. dough for each mound.
  • Bake 10 to 12 min. or until lightly browned. Cool 3 min. Remove from baking sheets to wire racks; cool completely.
  • Beat cream cheese and powdered sugar with remaining butter and vanilla in medium bowl with mixer until blended; spread onto cookies.
