Categories     main-dish

Time 48m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 pounds ripe tomatoes
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 red onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
1 oregano sprig
Pinch chili flakes
1 teaspoon sugar
1 pound dried angel hair pasta
1/4 cup grated Parmesan, plus more for garnish
1/4 cup chiffonade basil, plus whole sprigs for garnish

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and prepare an ice water bath. Cut a small "x" on the bottom of each tomato. In batches, place the tomatoes in the boiling water and blanch them for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until the skins are easy to peel away. Remove and immediately plunge into the ice bath. Peel the tomatoes and halve horizontally. Squeeze out the seeds, using your fingers to get them all. Roughly chop the peeled and seeded tomatoes. Set aside. (You can also use whole peeled canned tomatoes. Simply drain them, seed, and roughly chop).
  • Heat a large saute pan over medium high heat. Add the olive oil and heat. When the oil is hot, add the onions and garlic and saute for 2 minutes. Add the thyme leaves, oregano sprig, and chili flakes and saute until the garlic begins to turn golden brown. Add the tomatoes and the sugar and stir well. Lower the heat and cook slowly until the mixture is fairly dry, about 15 minutes.
  • Cook the angel hair pasta in boiling, salted water until al dente. Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce. Add the Parmesan and basil and toss well. Place in a large pasta bowl and garnish with Parmesan and basil sprigs.

ANGEL HAIR PASTA WITH SIMPLE GARLIC & BASIL

Angel Hair Pasta With Simple Garlic & Basil image

I adore angel hair pasta, and such a fine pasta doesn't always need a big sauce. Serve with some kind of cheese or "cheez" if you wish, sprinkled on top. My children like it with sliced olives. There are many versions of this simple recipe, this one I adapted from www.cookingnook.com. This would probably be good for 4 as a side dish or 4 for lunch with a salad.

Provided by magpie diner

Categories     Spaghetti

Time 35m

Yield 3-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 lemon, juice of
1 tomatoes, diced
sea salt, to taste
8 ounces angel hair pasta
1/4 cup fresh basil, roughly chopped
pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to boil over high heat.
  • Meanwhile, heat the olive oil up a large saute pan over medium heat. Once warm add the garlic and cook until it just begins to brown -- too long or too high and the garlic will burn.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and deglaze by pouring in the wine. Return the pan to the heat and cook for a few minutes. The wine should reduce by about half. Add in lemon juice, chopped tomato, and sea salt to taste. Stir once or twice then remove the pan from the heat again and set it aside to wait for the pasta.
  • Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook until desired tenderness, following package directions. Drain, then add the cooked pasta to the pan with the garlic & tomato mixture, along with the basil and some freshly ground pepper. Toss well, (if your pan isn't big enough, just do the tossing in a large serving bowl).
  • *Tip: 4 ounces of uncooked pasta (spaghetti, angel hair, vermicelli, fettuccine or linguine) = a 1-inch diameter bunch of dry pasta = 2 cups cooked pasta. Generally they say 2 ounces of pasta is one serving, but for larger appetites this might not be enough.

ANGEL HAIR PASTA WITH LEMON, GARLIC AND TOMATOES

Angel Hair Pasta With Lemon, Garlic and Tomatoes image

Served with a fresh salad, I think this is a perfect summer weekday meal. It comes together very fast if you prepare all the ingredients beforehand. (note: typo in wine amount has been corrected - 1/4 cup, not 1 1/4 cup - yowza, that'd be a lot of wine!)

Provided by Primordial

Categories     European

Time 20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb angel hair pasta
1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
4 -8 garlic cloves, finely minced
1/4 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 1/2 cups vine-ripe tomatoes, seeded and diced medium
1 teaspoon coarse salt
fresh ground black pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Cook the pasta in several quarts of salted water (keep an eye on it - angel hair cooks a lot faster than other pasta and you don't want it mushy). Place it in a large serving bowl, add the basil and Parmesan cheese and toss to mix.
  • While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet and saute the garlic for a minute or so until it *just* begins to change color. Add the wine and cook until it has been reduced by about half (2-4 minutes). Stir in the lemon juice and tomatoes and remove the sauce from heat until the pasta is ready.
  • Pour lemon-tomato sauce over pasta mixture, add salt and pepper to taste and toss to mix. Serve with extra Parmesan on the side, if desired.

Angel Hair with Tomatoes, Basil, and Garlic is a classic pasta dish that is easy to prepare but packed with flavor. This recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or for when you want to impress guests without spending hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound angel hair pasta
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, according to package directions.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the cherry tomatoes to the skillet and cook until they start to soften, about 5 minutes.
  4. Drain the pasta, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.
  5. Add the pasta and reserved pasta water to the skillet and toss to combine.
  6. Add the chopped basil to the skillet and toss to combine.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and serve.

Variations

  • For an extra protein boost, add cooked shrimp or chicken to the dish.
  • If you prefer a less spicy dish, omit the red pepper flakes.
  • You can use any type of pasta for this dish, but angel hair works best due to its delicate texture.
  • Try adding other vegetables such as zucchini or bell peppers for a nutrition boost.

Tips

  • Be sure to reserve some pasta water to add to the skillet. This starchy liquid helps to emulsify the sauce and make it creamy.
  • Fresh basil is a key ingredient in this dish, so be sure to use it if possible. If you don't have fresh basil, you can use dried basil, but the flavor won't be as fresh.
  • Don't overcook the cherry tomatoes. They should be softened but still retain their shape and texture.
  • Be sure to season the dish with salt and pepper to taste. This will help bring out the flavors of the ingredients.

Angel Hair with Tomatoes, Basil, and Garlic is a delicious pasta dish that is quick and easy to prepare. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a flavorful and satisfying meal that everyone will love. Experiment with different variations and add your favorite ingredients to create your own unique version of this classic dish.

Tip #1: Use Fresh Ingredients

One of the keys to making a delicious angel hair with tomatoes, basil, and garlic recipe is using fresh ingredients. This recipe is all about the flavors of the ingredients, and if they are not fresh, the dish will not be as flavorful. Use fresh tomatoes, basil, and garlic for the best results. If you can, use locally grown tomatoes and basil for even better flavor.

Tip #2: Use High-Quality Olive Oil

Olive oil is a key ingredient in this recipe, so it is important to use a high-quality olive oil. Look for extra virgin olive oil that is cold-pressed, as this will provide the best flavor. Avoid using low-quality olive oil or vegetable oil, as it will not provide the same flavor or health benefits.

Tip #3: Cook the Pasta Al Dente

Angel hair pasta is a delicate pasta that can easily become overcooked. To ensure that the pasta is cooked perfectly, cook it al dente. This means that the pasta is cooked until it is firm but not hard in the center. This will provide the best texture and flavor for the dish.

Tip #4: Use Plenty of Garlic

Garlic is a key flavor in this recipe, so don't be afraid to use plenty of it. You can use fresh garlic that has been minced, or you can use garlic powder if you prefer. If you are using fresh garlic, be sure to cook it until it is fragrant before adding the tomatoes and basil.

Tip #5: Add Red Pepper Flakes for a Kick

If you like a little bit of heat in your pasta, you can add some red pepper flakes to the dish. This will give the dish a little kick and add some depth of flavor. Be sure to add the red pepper flakes towards the end of cooking to prevent it from becoming too spicy.

Tip #6: Don't Overcook the Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a delicate ingredient in this recipe, and they can easily become overcooked. To prevent this, be sure to cook the tomatoes just until they are soft but not mushy. This will provide the best texture and flavor.

Tip #7: Reserve Some Pasta Water

Pasta water is a valuable ingredient in many pasta dishes, including angel hair with tomatoes, basil, and garlic. Reserve some of the pasta water before draining the pasta, as you may need it later to help create a sauce or thin out the dish.

Tip #8: Use Fresh Parmesan Cheese

Parmesan cheese is a classic topping for many pasta dishes, including angel hair with tomatoes, basil, and garlic. Be sure to use fresh Parmesan cheese that has been grated just before serving the dish. This will provide the best flavor and texture.

Tip #9: Serve with Crusty Bread

Angel hair with tomatoes, basil, and garlic is a simple yet flavorful recipe that pairs well with crusty bread. Serve the dish with a few slices of crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce and add some extra texture and flavor to the dish.
