ALMOND CRUSTED CHICKEN

Almond Crusted Chicken image

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 1h

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup unblanched almonds
1 1/2 teaspoons Spanish pimenton or paprika
2 large eggs whites
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 ounces each)
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
5 cups mesclun salad greens

Steps:

  • Finely chop the almonds in a mini-chopper or food processor. Transfer the nuts to a shallow dish and stir in the paprika. Lightly whisk the egg whites in another shallow dish. Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with salt and pepper. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg, letting the excess fall back into the dish. Then press both sides of the chicken into the nuts to coat. Place on a baking sheet, cover, and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes to set the crust.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place rack on a baking sheet.
  • Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of the oil and the butter. Place the chicken smooth-side down in the pan and then raise the heat to medium-high. Cook turning once, until the nuts set and turn golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Transfer meat to the prepared pan and bake until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the sides of the chicken registers 160 degrees F, about 20 minutes.
  • Whisk the vinegar, salt, and pepper to taste in a medium bowl. Gradually whisk in the remaining 3 tablespoons olive oil, starting with a few drops and then adding the rest in a steady stream, to make a smooth dressing. Add the salad greens and toss to coat evenly. Divide the salad evenly among 4 plates, top with the chicken and serve.

Almond crusted fried Manchego cheese is a versatile and delicious dish that can be served as a snack, a starter, or even as a main course. The combination of the nutty flavor of almonds and the rich and creamy taste of Manchego cheese makes this dish a favorite among cheese lovers. However, making almond crusted fried Manchego cheese can be tricky, as getting the coating right is crucial to achieving the perfect texture and flavor. In this article, we will discuss some valuable tips for making almond crusted fried Manchego cheese recipes that are sure to impress your guests.
Tip #1: Choose the right cheese
The first and most crucial step in making almond crusted fried Manchego cheese is selecting the right cheese. Manchego cheese is a Spanish cheese that is made from sheep's milk, and it has a rich and nutty flavor that pairs well with almonds. When selecting Manchego cheese for this recipe, look for a firm and aged cheese that will hold its shape when fried. A young and soft cheese may not hold up well when fried, resulting in a gooey mess.
Tip #2: Chill the cheese
Before coating the cheese in the almond crust, it's important to chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the cheese will firm it up and make it easier to handle when coating. It will also prevent the cheese from melting too quickly when fried.
Tip #3: Use a dry breading process
To get the perfect almond crust, it's important to use a dry breading process. First, coat the chilled cheese in flour, then dip it into a beaten egg, and finally, coat it with a mixture of ground almonds, breadcrumbs, and seasoning. It's important to press the almond mixture firmly onto the cheese to ensure that it sticks and forms a crisp crust when fried.
Tip #4: Fry in small batches
When frying the almond crusted Manchego cheese, it's important to do it in small batches. Frying too many pieces at once can result in uneven cooking and a soggy crust. Use a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to fry the cheese, and fry each piece for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
Tip #5: Serve immediately
Almond crusted fried Manchego cheese is best served immediately after frying. The cheese will be warm and gooey, and the almond crust will be crispy and flavorful. Serve the cheese with a dipping sauce, such as a fruity jam or a spicy salsa, to balance out the richness of the cheese.
Tip #6: Experiment with flavors
While almond crusted fried Manchego cheese is delicious on its own, you can experiment with different flavors to elevate the dish. Try adding herbs or spices to the almond crust mixture, such as smoked paprika or rosemary, for an extra burst of flavor. You can also serve the cheese with different dipping sauces, such as honey or balsamic glaze, to add sweetness and tanginess to the dish.
Tip #7: Pair with the right wine
When serving almond crusted fried Manchego cheese, it's important to pair it with the right wine. A dry white wine, such as a Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Grigio, pairs well with the nutty and creamy flavors of the cheese. You can also pair it with a light-bodied red wine, such as a Pinot Noir or a Barbera, for a more robust and flavorful pairing.

Conclusion

Almond crusted fried Manchego cheese is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served in many different ways. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your almond crusted fried Manchego cheese recipes turn out perfectly every time. Remember to choose the right cheese, chill it properly, use a dry breading process, fry in small batches, serve immediately, experiment with flavors, and pair with the right wine. With these tips in mind, you're well on your way to creating a delicious and impressive dish that is sure to impress your guests.
