Wishing you could escape to a faraway destination before your work day? You can with this traditional Turkish breakfast. It is easy to put together, healthy, and perfect for a hot summer morning. This recipe can also be easily scaled to serve a large group.

1 large tomatoes
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried mint
2 Persian cucumbers
salt
12 cured black olives, like Kalamata
2 ounces feta cheese
2 slices bread
2 tablespoons cherry jam

Steps:

  • Peel the tomato, remove the core, slice into eighths and divide onto plates. Drizzle the tomatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with mint and salt.
  • Thinly slice the cucumbers, divide among plates, and sprinkle with salt.
  • Add olives to each plate.
  • Spread feta cheese on the bread and top with jam.
  • Can add a fried egg for a heartier breakfast.

MUZLU SUT (MILK AND BANANA DRINK)

1 ripe banana, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon ground almonds
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup skim milk

Steps:

  • Put the banana slices, honey, almond and 50 ml (3-4 tbsp) of milk into the blender. Blend for about 35-40 seconds. (you want a smooth mixture).
  • Pour in the rest of the milk and mix again for about 35-40 seconds. Pour into a glass and drink with the bubbles.
  • You can also add in a couple ice cubes.

2 tsp powdered ginger
1/2 c brandy
2 oranges, peeled and sliced
1 c fresh pineapple, cubed
1 c strawberries, halved

Steps:

  • 1. Dissolve the ginger in the brandy.
  • 2. Combine orange, pineapple and strawberries in a bowl.
  • 3. Pour brandy over the fruits, basting them for a few moments. Cover the bowl and chill 3 hours.
  • 4. Arrange the salad on lettuce leaves and serve.

1 (8 ounce) container low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 1/2 cups peeled sliced ripe peaches or 1 1/2 cups nectarines
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup wheat germ

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in blender container; cover. Blend on high.
  • speed about 1 minute or until smooth.
  • Pour smoothie into 2.
  • glasses and, if desired, sprinkle with additional wheat germ.
