Time 20m

Yield 5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup water
5 tablespoons textured vegetable protein (unflavored Texturized Vegetable Protein granules)
5 tablespoons rolled oats
2 teaspoons fructose
1/2 teaspoon molasses
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 tablespoons pecans

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients and bring to a boil over a low heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and cover.
  • Depending on your preferences, you can reduce the heat to lower to a simmer for 5-10 more minutes or until the mush is very dense. You can cover and let sit for 5-10 minutes for a less thick, more chewy mush.
  • The recipe works well in a rice cooker, or overnight on low in a crock pot for hot cereal when you first wake up.
  • You may also put this into a pot overnight without cooking it, then heat it up on the stove or in the microwave.

TVP BREAKFAST SAUSAGE

Tvp Breakfast Sausage image

A delicious, lightly seasoned breakfast sausage made from TVP (textured vegetable protein). Found on a low-carber website when searching for TVP sausage recipes, made small modifications. In our supermarkets, TVP is located with 'specialty flours' like rye and rice.

Time 9m

Yield 8-12 3, 3-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup water
1 cup dry textured vegetable protein (TVP)
1/8 teaspoon ground savory
1/4 teaspoon ground thyme
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon sage
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1 teaspoon sugar
2 medium eggs

Steps:

  • Add salt and spices to water, bring to boil. Add TVP. Remove from heat, stir well, and allow to cool enough to mix with eggs. Beat egg with sugar*, add TVP mixture. Form patties - extra may be frozen. Fry up (about 3 minutes per side, till nicely browned) and enjoy!
  • * I'm not sure what the sugar's for - the original recipe called for more sweetener than this and it came out quite sweet. I left in a little to help the sausage brown up, but I'm sure the recipe would be fine without it!
