1 cup sugar
8 whole allspice berries
8 whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar, 1 cup water, allspice, cloves, cinnamon and ginger in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar is completely melted. Remove from the heat and let steep for 1 hour. Strain into a small bowl, cover and refrigerate until cold.

1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Bring 1 cup each sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Syrup can be refrigerated up to 1 week in an airtight container.

Number Of Ingredients 9

For each syrup, start by mixing 2 cups water and 1 1/2 cups sugar in medium saucepan.
For Spiced Simple Syrup
1 whole orange, zested
3 tablespoons grated peeled fresh ginger
3 cinnamon sticks
4 whole cloves
3 cardamon pods (squeezed open slightly to allow access to the seeds inside)
2 whole black pepper corns
Pinch of ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Bring ingredients to boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat; cover and let steep 1 hour. Strain syrup into small pitcher; discard solids in strainer. Cover and refrigerate syrup until cold, about 3 hours. (Can be made 1 week ahead. Keep chilled.)
