SOUTH BEACH MEAT PIZZA

Never had this pizza...the picture is what is with the recipe and all I can say is wow...this is some heavy duty meat pizza.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 lb extra lean ground beef
4 c shredded mozzarella
1 c pizza sauce
low fat pepperoni slices
onions, peppers (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Brown extra lean ground beef.
  • 2. Preheat oven to 350 F. Put beef in a large bowl & mix well with 2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
  • 3. Spread mixture out like a pizza crust on a cookie sheet or a baking stone.
  • 4. Put pizza sauce on the mixture. Top with 1-2 cups of shredded mozzarella. Top with low fat pepperoni slices, onions and peppers.
  • 5. Cook 15 minutes or until top cheese starts to brown. Put foil on rack below to catch any drippings.

Everyone has heared of pizza that's amore'. After all, what's not to love about this recipe. This is a Phase 2 recipe. This came from The South Beach Diet Cookbook. I have not tried this, just posting for safe keeping.

1 lb extra lean ground beef
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 cup shredded reduced-fat mozzarella cheese (4oz)
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 cup water
4 ounces sliced mushrooms, undrained
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons finely chopped onions
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese (1 1/2oz)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the beef, milk, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and garlic. Mix well. Pat the mixture into a 9" pie plate.
  • In the same bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese, tomato paste, water, mushrooms (with juice), oregano, and onion; mix well. Spoon the mixture over the meat mixture in the pan. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the meat is no longer pink.
