RED ROBIN ROYAL RED ROBIN BURGER
Menu Description: "This is the aristocrat of all burgers because we crown it with a fresh fried egg. In addition, topped with three strips of hickory-smoked bacon, American cheese, crisp lettuce, tomatoes and mayo." This delicious burger has been on Red Robin's menu since the restaurant first opened in 1969 and it's still a popular pick today. The recipe is a classic bacon cheeseburger, except for one huge difference: there's a jumbo fried egg stacked in the middle! If you've never had an egg on a burger before I encourage you to give this recipe a try - it's a really great burger. Red Robin serves over 36 million burgers a year and each of them is sprinkled with the secret seasoning blend called "Red Robin Seasoning." You can buy a bottle of the seasoning in the restaurant, or you can just make your own with the Top Secret Recipe I've included below. This recipe for the seasoning is an improved version of the formula found in Top Secret Restaurant Recipes 2 since tomato soup mix is hard to find these days. I discovered that a little bit of the dry mix in a box of Italian Lasagna Hamburger Helper is the perfect way to get dehydrated tomato and a few other tasty ingredients into the seasoning blend and I think this version is a better clone. The restaurant makes each burger with 6 ounces of 80/20 ground beef, which is 20% fat. But you can also use 15% beef here and your burger will still taste just like the real thing. Steps:
- Make seasoning by combining all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Form ground beef into a patty that is about 5 inches in diameter (slightly larger than your bun). Sprinkle with a little of the seasoning blend.
- Cook the patty in the hot pan for 2 to 3 minutes, flip it over and place two slices of American cheese on top of the patty. Continue cooking patty for 2 to 3 minutes or it's your desired doneness.
- Cook the egg by melting the butter-flavored shortening (or butter) in a small pan over medium heat. Crack the egg into the pan and break the yolk. Cook the egg for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until done.
- While the burger patty and egg are cooking brown the face of the top and bottom of the sesame bun in another hot skillet. When the buns are browned, spread mayonnaise on both the top and bottom bun.
- When the burger is done, place it on the bottom bun.
- Position two tomato slices on the melted cheese followed by the cooked egg.
- Place the 3 bacon slices on the egg.
- Pile the lettuce on the mayonnaise on the top bun and turn the bun over onto the bottom of the hamburger. Serve with a napkin and cold drink. And fries, if you've got 'em.
- Makes 1 hamburger.
