Taco Dip With Ground Turkey image

I came up with this recipe for a party and it has gotten rave reviews every time I make it. I originally started out with ground beef, but have switched to turkey because it's healthier, it doesn't have to be drained, and with the taco seasoning, you can hardly tell the difference anyway! I do not recommend fat free cheddar cheese as it does not melt as easily, and it can make it more difficult to get through all of the layers with the tortilla chips.

Yield 1 casserole

Number Of Ingredients 6

16 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 lb ground turkey (99% fat free is great)
15 1/2 ounces salsa
1 ounce taco seasoning
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese or 4 cups Mexican blend cheese
tortilla chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Cook ground turkey in frying pan until completely cooked through. Drain if necessary. Add taco seasoning and stir until seasoning is evenly distributed throughout.
  • In a 2 quart casserole dish or aluminum baking tin, spread cream cheese to cover the bottom of the dish evenly.
  • Layer turkey evenly, followed by 1/2 of the shredded cheddar cheese. Layer salsa on top of cheese, and cover with the remaining 1/2 of cheese.
  • Bake uncovered in oven for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes and serve with tortilla chips.
