Pie Crust 101 image

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 tablespoon Sugar
1/4 cup Water
2 1/4 teaspoons Cider Vinegar
9.6 ounces All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
4 tablespoons Shortening
1 stick Cold Butter
1 tablespoon Cold Water
1 Egg White

Steps:

  • In a small bowl combine the sugar with the water, stirring until the sugar is dissolved to make a simple syrup.Stir in the cider vinegar.Refrigerate until well chilled
  • Pulse the flour and salt in a food processor until thoroughly combined. Add the shortening and pulse.( The dough will resemble moist sand).Add the butter and pulse Until the butter is reduced to pea sized pieces. Sprinkle the syrup over the dough and pulse a few times.Remove it from the food processor and place in a bowl. Knead the dough and Add 1 tablespoon cold water at a time if needed to bring the dough together. Mold the dough into a 6 inch disc cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about one hour.
  • On a lightly floured surface Roll out the dough into a round 1/8 inch thick.Use extra dough for decorations. Brush the onion baked dough with water or egg whiteBefore pressing any cutouts.Freeze for 20 to 30 minutes before filling and baking
