Indian Masala Chai image

This incredible flavorful homemade chai recipe is perfect to enjoy at any time! You can make it as strong as you want and if you prefer a richer flavor, use more or just milk...

Number Of Ingredients 13

MASALA CHAI MIX
2 teaspoon(s) green cardamom
1 teaspoon(s) whole cloves
1 large star anise
1 large cinnamon stick
1/2 teaspoon(s) freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon(s) whole mixed peppercorns, or more to taste
MASALA CHAI LATTE
1 teaspoon(s) loose black tea (substitute tea powder)
1 teaspoon(s) fresh chopped ginger, or more to taste
1 cup(s) water
1/2 teaspoon(s) masala chai mix
1 cup(s) milk

Steps:

  • Mix all the ingredients in a spice grinder except nutmeg. Store in an airtight container
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add water and bring to a boil. Add black tea, ginger and chai mix. Stir and boil for 3 minutes. Add milk and if desired, sweetness to it. Reduce heat to medium, stir and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and steep for 2 minutes. Strain mixture to a sieve over a cup pressing with the back of the spoon what left in the sieve. Makes 1 cup
