Ice Cream Soda image

These were popular in the 1940's and 1950's, made by "soda jerks" at soda fountains. You can still get them some places, one place being Hoskins Drug Store on Main Street in Clinton, Tennessee. I've used chocolate as the flavoring - my favorite. Feel free to experiment with other flavors. Very refreshing on a day like today - 102° in the shade!

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 tablespoon(s) hershey's chocolate syrup
1/4 cup(s) milk
2 small scoops vanilla ice cream
- chilled club soda
- whipped cream (optional)

Steps:

  • In the bottom of a tall glass, stir together the chocolate syrup and milk. Fill glass half full with chilled club soda. Add the ice cream and stir it a little bit. Slowly pour more club soda over the ice cream until glass is full and frothy. Top with whipped cream if desired. Serve with a straw. I didn't use a fancy glass this time, but you can use really pretty glasses for a great effect.
