Granny Grant's Easy Egg Casserole image

My Mom always makes this on Christmas morning. It's easy to put together and is prepared the night before. All you have to do Christmas morning is pop it into the oven!

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 slice(s) of buttered white bread
1 pound(s) grated, sharp cheddar cheese
5 large eggs, beaten
3 cup(s) whole milk or a combination of milk and half & half
3/4 teaspoon(s) dry mustard
3/4 teaspoon(s) salt
- cook's choice of any "extra goodie" such as: chopped ham, sauteed mushrooms, chopped olives, crumbled bacon, browned & crumbled sausage, chopped green chilies, etc.

Steps:

  • Break buttered bread into pieces and put in the bottom of a greased 9- by 13-inch pan.
  • Spread grated cheese over bread.
  • Add any extra goodies you choose and sprinkle over the cheese.
  • Pour combined milk, beaten eggs, salt and dry mustard over all.
  • Refrigerate AT LEAST over night; longer is okay.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. I usually leave the casserole covered with aluminum foil for the first 30 minutes and then remove the foil for the last 30 minutes of baking. The casserole is done when it is bubbling and lightly browned.
