Cube Steak & Gravy image

One of our faves around my house! The onions cooked in with the steak gives the best taste to the gravy!

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/4 c vegetable oil
0 slice 6-8 pieces cube steak
1 1/2 c flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
1 slice onion sliced

Steps:

  • 1. In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, salt, pepper & garlic powder.
  • 2. Pour oil into skillet, turn eye on medium high, & allow oil to heat.
  • 3. Put onion slices in oil & allow to start frying.
  • 4. One piece at a time, dredge steak in flour mixture & place in skillet.
  • 5. Cover skillet with a lid.
  • 6. After about 4 minutes, turn steak, placing onions on top of steak.
  • 7. Fry steak until golden brown on both sides.
  • 8. Remove to a platter, lined with paper towels.
  • 9. To make gravy, make sure oil is coating the bottom of the skillet. (Add more if necessary)
  • 10. Turn up heat.
  • 11. Measure 2 1/2 cups milk in a bowl.
  • 12. Add 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 tsp pepper & 1/2 tsp salt to oil & stir until mixed well with onions.
  • 13. Slowly pour in the milk and stir until thickened.
  • 14. Remove from heat and serve with hot biscuits. **Flaky Sour Cream Biscuit recipe is posted
