2 c sugar
3/4 c baking cocoa
1 c canola oil
4 eggs
1/4 c 2% milk
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 c semi sweet chocolate chips
1 c chopped walnuts, divided
14 oz caramels
14 oz can sweetened condensed milk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl beat sugar, cocoa, oil, eggs and milk.
  • 2. Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add to egg mixture until well blended.
  • 3. Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts, reserving 1/2 cup for center of brownies.
  • 4. Spoon 2/3 of batter into a 9x13 pan, and bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
  • 5. Meanwhile put unwrapped caramels in a large glass bowl with the sweetened condensed milk. Zap for 3 minutes occasionally stirring until caramels are melted.
  • 6. Pour Carmel layer over baked brownie layer.
  • 7. Sprinkle walnuts over all.
  • 8. Drop remaining batter by teaspoons over the Carmel layer, smooth the chocolate, and then carefully swirl with a knife.
  • 9. Bake 35-40 minutes longer or until a toothpick inserted in the center does out with moist crumbs, do not over bake.
  • 10. Cool on a wire rack.
