½ cup shortening 2 one oz. squares unsweetened baking chocolate ¾ cup flour ½ tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. salt 2 eggs 1 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup california walnuts, coarsely cut

Steps:

  • 1. Pre-heat oven to 350 Melt shortening and chocolate together in a double boiler over hot water and let cool Sift flour with baking powder and salt Beat eggs until light; add sugar, then chocolate mixture, and blend. Add flour, vanilla, and nuts. Mix well. Pour batter into well greased 8 inch square pan. Bake for 30 -35 minutes. Cool and cut into squares Makes 16
