PASCAGOULA SHRIMP BOIL WITH PEPPY SEAFOOD SAUCE



Pascagoula Shrimp Boil with Peppy Seafood Sauce image

Number Of Ingredients 19

3 ounces prepared shrimp boil (commercial spice mix)
1 small onion, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 clove garlic, sliced
1 gallon water
1/2 cup salt
5 pounds shrimp, fresh or frozen

PEPPY SEAFOOD SAUCE:
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup catsup
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon horseradish
1 tablespoon mayonnaise or salad dressing
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon onion, grated
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 drops Tabasco sauce
1 dash pepper

Steps:

  • Tie the shrimp boil, onion, lemon and garlic in a piece of cheesecloth. Place water in large container. Add salt and bag of seasonings. Cover and bring to boiling point over a hot fire. Add shrimp and return to boiling point. Cover and cook 5 minutes or until shrimp are tender. Drain. Note: If shrimp is to be used for salad or cocktails, cook as above, remove from water, peel, devein, and chill. Peppy Seafood Sauce: Mix ingredients well. Serve with shrimp.

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 pounds raw shrimp, in shells
1/4 pound butter
2/3 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1 1/2 cups Italian salad dressing
2 1/2 teaspoons black pepper, more to taste

Steps:

  • Wash shrimp and remove heads, but leave in shell. Drain. In a medium saucepan, melt butter and add lemon juice, lemon peel, Italian dressing, and black pepper. Bring to a boil.
