1 dozen brats
Beer, to cover
1 medium large sweet onion
2 ounces (1/2 stick) butter
Serving suggestions: fresh baked brat buns with sauerkraut, onions, green peppers, ketchup, and/or mustard

Steps:

  • Place brats in a Dutch oven with onions and butter, cover the brats with beer. Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer until brats are cooked. Remove brats and set aside beer mixture. Grill brats until golden brown and return to beer mixture until ready to serve. Serve brats on fresh baked brat buns with sauerkraut, onions, green peppers, ketchup, and/or mustard.

Browned and crumbled bratwurst and navy beans come together in a cheesy, cream-based soup that's perfect for cold fall and winter days. Carrots and spinach add color and additional nutritional value. Pair it with corn muffins and a beer or cider!

1 (19.8 ounce) package bratwurst sausages
2 medium carrots, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cups cooked navy beans
2 cups chicken broth
¼ cup pickled jalapeno pepper slices, chopped
1 ½ cups milk, divided
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
2 cups torn fresh spinach
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Remove and discard bratwurst casings. Cook bratwurst, carrots, and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat until bratwurst is browned and crumbly, about 7 minutes. Add cooked navy beans, chicken broth, and jalapenos; bring to a boil.
  • Whisk 1/2 cup milk with flour; add to soup and stir until thickened, about 3 minutes. Reduce heat. Add remaining 1 cup milk and shredded Cheddar cheese; stir until cheese is melted.
  • Stir in spinach and cook until wilted, 1 to 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

4 (12 ounce) cans beer
1 large onion, diced
10 bratwurst
2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat. When hot, lightly oil grate.
  • Combine the beer and onions in a large pot; bring to a boil. Submerge the bratwurst in the beer; add the red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to medium and cook another 10 to 12 minutes. Remove the bratwurst from the beer mixture; reduce heat to low, and continue cooking the onions.
  • Cook the bratwurst on the preheated grill, turning once, 5 to 10 minutes. Serve with the beer mixture as a topping or side.

Slow-Cooker Beer-Glazed Brats and Beans image

Here's a handy recipe that makes a delicious sandwich and side dish all in one slow cooker. It needs 15 minutes of prep time and just a few hours to cook.

2 cans (28 oz each) vegetarian beans in sauce or baked beans
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
2 tablespoons butter
1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced
8 vegetarian bratwurst
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup regular or nonalcoholic beer
8 hot dog buns, toasted

Steps:

  • Spray 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In slow cooker, mix beans and chili powder.
  • In 10-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onion in butter 6 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until very tender. Using tongs or slotted spoon, remove onion from skillet and place over beans in slow cooker; do not stir onion into beans.
  • Arrange bratwurst over onion. In small bowl, mix brown sugar, mustard, barbecue sauce and beer. Pour over bratwurst; do not stir.
  • Cover; cook on Low heat setting 3 to 4 hours.
  • To serve, place bratwurst in each bun. Lift onion with tongs; arrange over bratwurst in buns. Serve beans as a side dish.
