My mom and I used to have a catering business, and this Ham a la King recipe was a popular choice from our menu. It looks elegant on the plate and always gets rave reviews. Being able to make the sauce a day ahead is a big plus. -Jean Grubb, Bastrop, Texas

1 package (10 ounces) frozen puff pastry shells
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
1/2 cup hot water
1-1/2 cups milk
3 slices process American cheese
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed, optional
1 can (2-1/4 ounces) sliced ripe olives, drained
2 tablespoons diced pimientos
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Bake pastry shells according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, melt butter; stir in flour until smooth. Dissolve bouillon in water. Gradually add milk and bouillon to the saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. , Reduce heat; add the cheese, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Stir until cheese is melted. Add the ham, peas if desired, olives, pimientos and parsley; heat through. Serve in pastry shells.

A great recipe for leftover ham. Serve it over buttered toast or leftover mashed potatoes for a quick and easy meal.

1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons grated onions
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
1 cup diced cooked ham
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
1 cup cooked peas
1 (2 ounce) jar pimientos, drained and chopped
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a heavy saucepan, sauté onion and celery over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  • Add the flour and stir until incorporated.
  • Slowly add the milk stirring constantly until smooth and thickened, add more milk if the sauce becomes too thick.
  • Add remaining ingredients and cook over low heat, stirring frequently until heated through.

I created this out of a need to use Left Over Ham and we all love Biscuits and gravy so here it is. This is another Cheap inexpensive meal to make. I have also used a little red and green diced bell-peppers in this for added flavors and color on the plate. Simple to throw together. BUDGET friendly also.

HAM- IT- UP A LA KING
2 C cooked ham chopped ( i used left over ham)
1 lg jar four cheese alfredo sauce
1- 1/2 C frozen baby peas or green beans or peas and carrots
biscuits ( optional) mashed potatoes or cooked rice (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Bake Your Biscuits, Your Mashed potatoes or cooked Rice and Keep Hot, set aside.
  • 2. Heat together, Chopped Ham, Cheese Sauce, and vegies, over Med High heat.
  • 3. Serve Piping Hot, over Hot Baked Biscuits. or Mashed Potatoes, or Rice, Top with Sour Cream or Sprinkled with Prmesan Cheese.
