BAKED CINNAMON APPLES (CROCK POT)

Baked Cinnamon Apples (Crock Pot) image

This is a super rich indulgence that is very much like the middle of an apple pie. A great recipe for those apples that are sitting in your fridge that nobody wants to eat. Prep time includes time to peel the apples by hand (but you don't have to peel them if you don't want to). Enjoy!

A simple, classic low-fat pudding to use up seasonal Bramleys

Provided by James Martin

Categories     Dessert, Dinner

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cooking apples , cored but left whole
2 stem ginger balls, finely chopped
½ tsp ground cinnamon
4 prunes , chopped
50g light muscovado sugar
1 tbsp butter
4 big scoops good quality vanilla ice cream , to serve

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Using a sharp knife, score a line around the equator of each apple. Put them into a baking dish with a small splash of water in the bottom.

Top each with a knob of butter and bake for 35-40 mins, or until cooked through. To test, pierce with a sharp knife - it should slide straight through. The apples can be cooked up to a day ahead, then warmed through in the oven or microwave before eating.

Provided by Dawn R

Categories     Pork

Time 1h

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 -6 center cut pork boneless pork chops
3 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup water
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon thyme
sea salt and pepper
olive oil

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400.
  • Lay pork chops on a baking sheet, lightly coat with olive oil, then thyme, and sea salt and pepper to your liking. Rub the seasonings into the meat and set aside.
  • In a sauce pan, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, water and apples. Bring to a boil, and then simmer for 20 minutes or until apples are tender. Combine the flour with a tablespoon of cold water to dissolve. Add flour mixture to the apples and return to a boil for 5 minutes or until sauce begins to thicken. If the mixture becomes too thick, you can add more water, and likewise, if it's too thin, you can add more flour-water.
  • Place porkchops in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes. Top the chops with the apples and return to baking for another 10 minutes.
  • This is great with steamed green beans, and is a healthy alternative to other apple pork dishes.

BAKED APPLES WITH RUM AND CINNAMON

Baked Apples with Rum and Cinnamon image

These are so satisfying and don't break the calorie bank if eaten without the ice cream. They can also be made without the rum. I have suggested rum raisin ice cream because I love the combination, but vanilla ice cream or even lemon sorbet would be just as delicious.

Provided by Alex Guarnaschelli

Categories     dessert

Time 55m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup dark rum
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 whole cloves
6 small to medium apples, preferably a sturdy variety like Rome or Granny Smith, washed and cored
6 cinnamon sticks
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
1 cup unsweetened apple cider
Rum raisin ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • For the glaze: In a medium saucepan, combine the dark brown sugar, rum, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir to blend and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook and reduce for 3 to 4 minutes to allow the sugar and other ingredients to blend together.
  • For the apples: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a baking dish large enough to hold all of the apples, arrange the apples in a single layer. Put a cinnamon stick inside the cavity made from coring each apple. Pour the glaze over the apples and top each with pieces of butter. Add the cider to the bottom of the dish and place it in the center of the oven.
  • Cook the apples, basting them from time to time, until they are tender but not mushy, 25 to 30 minutes (smaller apples will take less time). Serve with scoops of ice cream, sour cream, or just by themselves. They are also delicious leftover.

HONEY BAKED APPLES WITH RAISINS AND CINNAMON

Honey Baked Apples with Raisins and Cinnamon image

This dish is well suited to apples with a high moisture content, such as Jonagold, Braeburn and Gala; they soften nicely and produce a full-flavored juice that can be spooned over the top of the apples when served.

Provided by Food Network

Categories     dessert

Time 1h20m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 1/2 cups apple cider
1/2 cup packed brown sugar, plus 2 tablespoons
1/3 cup honey (preferably 100 percent raw honey from a small producer)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
Pinch freshly ground pepper
6 unpeeled Braeburn, Golden Delicious or McIntosh apples, halved and cored with a melon baller
1/2 cup golden raisins or currants
1/2 cup dried apricots, julienned
6 whole cloves
2 or 3 star anise pods
2 to 3 cinnamon sticks, optional
1/4 cup apple brandy

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the apple cider, brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for about 25 minutes or so, or until mixture is syrupy and reduced to about 2 2/3 cups.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Put the apples, cut side down, in a 12-inch baking pan. Distribute the raisins, apricots, cloves, star anise, and cinnamon sticks, if using, over the apples. Pour the hot syrup over the apples. Cover the pan with aluminum foil.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until the apples are almost tender when pierced with the tip of a sharp knife. Remove from the oven, turn the apples over, add the brandy. Baste apples with the apple cider and apple brandy many times, allowing the apples to absorb the flavor. Let the pan stand, covered, for 15 minutes. Serve baked apples with the liquid and dried fruits spooned over them in a bowl. Served with whipped heavy cream or ice cream and a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

The heavenly aroma of Cinnamon Baked Apples from Margaret McNeil of Germantown, Tennessee is sure to bring your family to the table without you even asking. BAKED CINNAMON APPLES

Baked Cinnamon Apples image

A PRETTY DISH to have with any meal or for guests. Cinnamon, brown sugar and butter enhance these apples and make a good autumn harvest side dish. To give color use craisins instead of raisins. Kids enjoy eating apples this way.

Provided by Seasoned Cook

Categories     Apple

Time 50m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 apples
4 tablespoons raisins (or craisins)
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 teaspoons butter

Steps:

  • Remove core and seed from each apple. Cut top peeling off each apple. Poke a knife in the side of each apple several times. As the apples bake this keeps the apples from breaking apart and gives an air vent.
  • Arrange apples in a baking dish and stuff each core with raisins.
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon and spoon over raisins. Dot each with a teaspoon of butter.
  • Cover with a foil "tent" and bake in a 375 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Note: Before baking a teaspoon of maple syrup (breakfast type) could be added to each core and let ooze down.
