1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons fresh onions, Minced
16 ounces cabbage coleslaw blend

Steps:

  • Mix the first 5 ingredients until the sugar is dissolved, then mix in the rest in order.
  • It can be eaten immediately but tastes best after 4 hours.
  • Substitution: If you don't have Buttermilk, you use Sour Cream.
  • Substitution: If you want to make use of your Broccoli Stalks, you can peel them and then shred them instead of the Cabbage Coleslaw Blend.
  • Additions: Try adding a 1/4 Cup of raisins and/or Jerk Seasoning to taste.
  • Enjoy!

My mother-in-law introduced me to this recipe 40 years ago. She was raised in a mennonite community in Ontario Canada, although not a mennonite herself. Can use either fresh cabbage shredded or, bagged shredded cabbage (at least 2 bags)

1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 -3 green onions, chopped (using the entire onions)
1 -2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Mix thoroughly.
  • Allow sugar and salt to dissolve (about 10 minutes)
  • Toss with cabbage.
  • Refrigerate.
  • Serve.

6 c. shredded cabbage & 1 c. shredded carrots (or 2 pkgs pre-shredded cole slaw mix)
1 c. mayonnaise (Hellmann's)
1/4 c. white wine vinegar
1 tsp. celery seed
1/4 c. sugar
salt & pepper

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine cabbage & carrots. In smaller bowl, make dressing by combining remaining ingredients. Toss dressing into cabbage mixture and chill.

I think I finally got it right this time. Family and friends love it. Closest I've come to imitating KFC slaw.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 small head cabbage finely shredded
1 grated carrot (med to lrg)
1/3 small yellow onion diced very small ( or 4 green onions diced with some of the green stems)
1/3 cup of milk
2 level tbs white vinegar
2 tbs white sugar* (may substitute with 2 - 3 packets of sweet n low )
3 heaping tbs mayonnaise ( not salad dressing)
1 tbs lemon juice
salt / pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Add milk , mayo, lemon juice , vinegar and sugar to cabbage, carrot and onion blend. Salt and pepper if desired ... Mix well. Refrigerate for 3 - 4 hours , stirring a couple of times in between including stirring before serving.
  • 2. Note: you can add more or less sugar depending on how sweet you like it ... also more or less mayo ... you be the judge.
