1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins
5 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed (18x14-inch)
1 tablespoon butter, softened
1 tablespoon honey

Steps:

  • Melt 1/2 cup butter in 1-quart saucepan.
  • Stir in 1/2 cup honey, lemon juice and cinnamon.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture is thickened (18 to 20 minutes).
  • Remove from heat.
  • Combine thickened honey mixture, walnuts and raisins in small bowl; mix well.
  • Cool to room temperature (1 hour).
  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Cut phyllo sheets in half crosswise (14x9-inch rectangle).
  • Place 1 1/2 cups filling on end of each phyllo rectangle.
  • Roll up, starting at long (14-inch) edge.
  • Combine all glaze ingredients; brush over top of dough.
  • Cut into 1-inch slices with sharp knife.
  • Repeat with remaining phyllo dough.
  • Place baklava slices onto ungreased baking sheet, cut-side down.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Let stand 1 to 2 minutes; remove from baking sheet.
  • Serve warm or cool.

1/3 cup pistachios
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup unblanched almonds
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup butter, melted, divided
1 ounce semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
15 sheets phyllo dough (14x9 inch size)
SYRUP:
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon orange juice

Steps:

  • Place the first seven ingredients in a food processor; process until finely chopped. Transfer to a small bowl; stir in honey and 2 tablespoons melted butter. Stir in chocolate., Preheat oven to 350°. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a work surface; brush with butter. Layer with four additional phyllo sheets, brushing each layer. (Keep remaining phyllo covered with plastic wrap and a damp towel to prevent it from drying out.), Using a sharp knife, cut the layered sheets into twelve squares. Carefully press each stack into a greased miniature muffin cup; fill each with a rounded teaspoonful of filling. Form into bundles by gathering edges of phyllo squares and twisting centers to close. Repeat twice with remaining ingredients., Brush tops with remaining melted butter. Bake 18-20 minutes or until golden brown., Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine syrup ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cook and stir until sugar is completely dissolved., Remove baklava bites from oven; drizzle immediately with syrup. Remove from pans to wire racks; cool. Store in an airtight container.

This appetizer or dessert using mini phyllo cups. These can be frozen and used later. Perfect for a dinner party or brunch. Very easy to do.

1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
30 miniature phyllo cups
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • In a food processor, add walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves and pulse to combine. Spoon 1 Tablespoon of nut mixture into each cup. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar, honey and lemon juice and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Cool slightly and pour a teaspoon of warm syrup over each cup.
  • Refrigerate cups for 4 to 5 hours, then bring to room temperature (about 15 minutes) before serving.
