ASIAN GRILLED SALMON

Asian Grilled Salmon image

Ina Garten's Asian Grilled Salmon, from Barefoot Contessa on Food Network, is a light, quick main dish with salty-sharp flavors like Dijon and soy sauce.

Provided by Ina Garten

Categories     main-dish

Time 34m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 side fresh salmon, boned but skin on (about 3 pounds)
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons good soy sauce
6 tablespoons good olive oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic

Steps:

  • Light charcoal briquettes in a grill and brush the grilling rack with oil to keep the salmon from sticking.
  • While the grill is heating, lay the salmon skin side down on a cutting board and cut it crosswise into 4 equal pieces. Whisk together the mustard, soy sauce, olive oil, and garlic in a small bowl. Drizzle half of the marinade onto the salmon and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
  • Place the salmon skin side down on the hot grill; discard the marinade the fish was sitting in. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. Turn carefully with a wide spatula and grill for another 4 to 5 minutes. The salmon will be slightly raw in the center, but don't worry; it will keep cooking as it sits.
  • Transfer the fish to a flat plate, skin side down, and spoon the reserved marinade on top. Allow the fish to rest for 10 minutes. Remove the skin and serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.

HONEY SOY GLAZED SALMON RECIPE BY TASTY

Honey Soy Glazed Salmon Recipe by Tasty image

Two words: honey salmon! Sure, it takes a tiny bit of prep work, but once you marinate your salmon, you won't be able to go back. A simple mix of honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger coats and flavors your fish for 30 minutes before you throw it on the pan until the outside is perfectly crispy. Once that's done, you heat up and reduce some extra marinade to make a thick, to-die-for glaze to pour over your filet. Serve with your favorite veggies or rice and enjoy!

Choosing the Right Fish

The first step in making perfect Asian honey grilled fish is selecting the right type of fish. It’s important to choose a fresh fish that is suitable for grilling. When selecting fish, it’s essential to look for one with firm, moist flesh that is free from any discoloration or bad odor.
Types of Fish for Grilling
  • Tuna
  • Salmon
  • Sea Bass
  • Grouper
  • Trout
  • Cod

Preparing the Fish

Once you have selected the right type of fish, the next step is to prepare it for grilling.
Cleaning the Fish
It’s essential to clean the fish properly before grilling, which involves removing the scales and the gut. Rinse the fish under cold water and remove any remaining scales with a knife or scaler. Then, cut off the head and tail using a sharp knife. Finally, use the knife to slit open the belly and remove the innards.
Marinating the Fish
Marinating the fish before grilling is essential as it adds flavor and infuses the fish with moisture. The marinade can be made from a combination of honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and other spices. Place the fish in a shallow dish or Ziploc bag and pour the marinade over it. Cover the fish and marinate it for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, in the refrigerator.

Grilling the Fish

Preheat the Grill
Before grilling the fish, it’s important to preheat the grill to a medium-high temperature. Brush the grill grates with some oil to prevent the fish from sticking.
Grilling Time and Temperature
The grilling time and temperature for the fish depend on the thickness of the fillets. A general rule is to grill the fish for 6-8 minutes per side, or until the fish flakes easily when tested with a fork. The recommended grilling temperature is 400-450°F.
Basting the Fish
Basting the fish with the remaining marinade while grilling adds extra flavor and moisture to the fish. Use a basting brush to brush the marinade over the fish every few minutes while grilling.
Using a Fish Basket
Using a fish basket is recommended as it helps prevent the fish from sticking to the grill grates and makes flipping the fish more comfortable. Place the fish in the basket and grill it over medium-high heat.

Serving the Asian Honey Grilled Fish
