Sugar-Free Jello Applesauce Delight image

I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes a few months ago and have of course gotten very serious about loosing weight, etc. I came up with this recipe as a tasty, super-easy dessert. Use any flavor sugar-free jello. Grape tastes good, but the apple sauce makes it a funny color. Cherry is my favorite so far. Enjoy! Prep time doesn't include chilling/setting time.

Making an applesauce delight recipe can be a fun and delicious way to use up apples that might be just a little past their prime. Applesauce can be used in a variety of recipes for baking or cooking, and it's a great way to add natural sweetness to any dish. In this article, we will provide valuable tips on how to make the perfect applesauce delight recipe.

Choose the Right Apples

When making applesauce, it's important to choose apples that are slightly tart, firm, and not too juicy. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples. Apples that are too juicy will create a watery applesauce, whereas apples that are too sweet will result in an overly sugary sauce. Don't be afraid to mix and match different types of apples as well to create unique flavor combinations.

Peel and Core the Apples

Before making your applesauce, you'll need to peel and core your apples. This can be done using a vegetable peeler and a fruit corer. If you don't have a corer, you can use a knife to carefully cut the inner core from each apple.

Cook the Apples Properly

Cooking the apples properly is essential to creating a silky-smooth applesauce. The best way to do this is to add your peeled, cored, and sliced apples to a large pot with some water or apple juice. Bring the liquid to a simmer and cover the pot. Allow the apples to cook for 20-30 minutes or until they are soft and tender.
Tips:
  • Cooking the apples on low to medium heat will help prevent the applesauce from burning.
  • Adding cinnamon sticks or other spices to the pot while the apples cook will infuse the apples with more flavor.

Blend and Season the Applesauce

Once your apples are cooked, it's time to blend them into a smooth puree. You can use a blender, food processor, or immersion blender for this step. Blend the apples until the mixture is completely smooth, and there are no lumps or chunks remaining.
Tips:
  • Be careful when blending hot liquids in a blender. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before blending or blend in small batches to avoid hot splatters.
  • Taste the applesauce before seasoning to adjust the amount of sugar or spices needed.

Customize your Applesauce

Once your applesauce is blended, it's time to season and customize it to your liking. You can add sweetness with honey or sugar, or add depth of flavor with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg. Other flavor options include adding vanilla extract, ginger, or even a splash of lemon juice for a tangy twist.
Tips:
  • Remember that the amount of sugar and spices needed will vary depending on the sweetness and tartness of your apples. Start with small amounts and taste as you go to avoid over-seasoning.
  • If you prefer a chunkier applesauce, you can skip blending entirely and simply mash the cooked apples with a fork or potato masher.

Storage and Serving

Applesauce can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for up to three months. It's a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of recipes. Try using it as a substitute for butter or oil in baked goods, as a topping for oatmeal or yogurt, or as a healthy snack dip for fruits and veggies.
Tips:
  • Make sure to label and date your container of applesauce so you know how long it has been stored.
  • Jazz up your applesauce by adding mix-ins like chopped nuts or dried fruit before serving.

Conclusion

We hope these tips help you create the perfect applesauce delight recipe. Remember to choose the right apples, cook them properly, season to taste, and have fun customizing your sauce. With a little creativity, applesauce can be a healthy and tasty addition to any recipe.
