Time 2h

Yield 12 bars

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 pound (4 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, quartered, cored, and sliced 1/8 inch thick (3 large)
1 1/2 pounds Golden Delicious apples, peeled, quartered, cored, and sliced 1/8 inch thick (3 large)
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • For the crust, place the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes, until light and creamy. Sift the flour and salt together and, with the mixer on low, slowly add to the butter-sugar mixture, beating until combined. Scatter two-thirds of the dough in clumps in a 9 x 13-inch baking pan and press it lightly with floured hands on the bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides. Refrigerate for 20 minutes. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until the crust is golden brown, and set aside to cool.
  • Meanwhile, put the mixing bowl with the remaining dough back on the mixer, add the walnuts and cinnamon, and mix on low speed to combine. Set aside.
  • Reduce the oven to 350 degrees.
  • For the filling, combine the Granny Smith and Golden Delicious apples and lemon juice in a very large bowl. Add the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and mix well. Melt the butter in a large (10-inch-diameter) pot, add the apples, and simmer over medium to medium-low heat, stirring often, for 12 to 15 minutes, until the apples are tender and the liquid has mostly evaporated. Spread the apples evenly over the crust, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
  • Pinch medium pieces of the remaining dough with your fingers and drop them evenly on top of the apples (they will not be covered). Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the topping is browned. Cool completely and cut into bars.

APPLE PIE BARS

Apple Pie Bars image

This delivers all the pleasure of apple pie - a buttery crust and topping sandwiching juicy spiced apples - without the need to roll out a dough. A simple dough is pressed into a bottom crust and squeezed into crumbles for the top. You can arrange the topping into a lattice, stripes, or other decorative pattern if you'd like. The whole pan easily serves 24 and can be cut into smaller bars if you want to serve an even-bigger crowd. These bars are best the day they are made, but they can be refrigerated for up to 2 days. Or, they can be frozen immediately after cooling and kept in the freezer for up to 1 month. Just make sure to thaw them before serving.

Categories     snack, cookies and bars, dessert

Time 2h

Yield 2 dozen bars

Number Of Ingredients 16

Softened butter, for greasing pan
3 cups/385 grams all-purpose flour
1 cup/200 grams sugar
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
3 sticks/340 grams cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
3/4 cup/75 grams walnuts, toasted and chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 1/2 pounds/680 grams tart apples, such as Granny Smith (about 3 large), peeled, cored and cut into 1/8-inch slices
1 1/2 pounds/680 grams sweet-tart apples, such as Fuji, Pink Lady or Gala (about 3 large), peeled, cored and cut into 1/8-inch slices
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup/55 grams unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
2/3 cup/135 grams sugar

Steps:

  • Make the crust and topping: Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9-by-13-inch cake pan with foil with overhang on all sides. Lightly grease pan with softened butter.
  • Pulse flour, sugar and salt in a food processor with the blade attachment to mix. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse sand. Put 1 1/2 cups in a medium bowl and mix in walnuts, cinnamon and cardamom. Squeeze with your hands to form a solid mass of dough. It's O.K. if a few bits fall off. Cover and refrigerate.
  • Pour remaining mixture into prepared pan and spread in an even layer, then press into bottom of pan and 1/2 inch up the sides.
  • Bake until golden brown and dry to the touch, 20 to 25 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Raise oven temperature to 375 degrees.
  • While crust bakes, make the filling: Toss all of the apples with the lemon juice in a large bowl. Melt butter in a large sauté pan set over medium-high heat. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom and sizzle for 15 seconds. Add apples and cook, stirring often, until just starting to soften, about 5 minutes. Add sugar and stir well. Cook, stirring occasionally, until all liquid releases from the apples then evaporates, 10 to 15 minutes. The mixture should be quite dry and the apples tender, but not sticking to the pan. Remove from heat and cool. (Tip: If you want your apples to cool quickly, spread them on a parchment-lined sheet pan and pop in the freezer for 5 to 7 minutes.)
  • Spread apple filling evenly over crust and press down gently to get rid of any gaps between the apple slices. Uncover the reserved walnut mixture and break off pebble-sized pieces. Arrange pieces in a lattice or striped pattern over filling or scatter evenly on top.
  • Bake until the topping is golden brown, 45 to 50 minutes. Cool completely in pan on a rack. To serve, lift apple pie bars out of pan and onto a large cutting board. Slide bars off foil, then cut into 6 even strips crosswise and 4 even strips lengthwise.

APPLE PIE STREUSEL BARS

Okay, this is a recipe I found on Pinterest and then tracked it down to the original. It was alright, but needed some major spice kick. So, I adapted the original with just a few additions, pan change, and switched the apple variety. I personally like skipping the glaze, serving it HOT with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Apple Pie Bars Recipes are a delightful and scrumptious dessert that brings joy and happiness to anyone who tastes it. These bars are the perfect blend of flaky crust, sweet and tart apples, and a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. They are the perfect treat for any occasion, be it a party, potluck, or just a casual get-together with friends and family.

The Ingredients

The Apple Pie Bars Recipes typically require a combination of ingredients that include butter, sugar, flour, eggs, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and of course, fresh apples. The crust is usually made from a mixture of flour, sugar, and butter, while the filling is made from sliced apples, sugar, flour, and spices.

The Preparation

To create Apple Pie Bars, the first step is to prepare the crust. This involves mixing the flour, sugar, and butter until the dough becomes crumbly. Once prepared, the dough is then pressed into the bottom of a baking pan and baked until golden in color. Next, the apple filling is prepared by mixing sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cream. After the apple mixture is ready, it is then spread over the crust. Finally, another layer of crust is added on top of the apple filling. This creates a sandwich-type of dessert with the apple filling in the middle. The Apple Pie Bars are baked until the crust turns a golden color, and the filling has a soft and slightly chewy texture.

The Variations

While the traditional Apple Pie Bars Recipes are delicious, there are numerous variations that one can try. Some people prefer to add different fruits such as peaches, blueberries, or cranberries, which can create a unique flavor and texture. Others like to add nuts such as walnuts or pecans to the filling mixture. This adds a nutty crunch to the apple filling that is hard to resist. Additionally, some people even like to add a dash of rum or brandy to the apple mixture, which gives it a delightful boozy flavor.

The Serving and Storage

Once the Apple Pie Bars are ready, they can be cut into bite-sized pieces and served with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream. These bars also make an excellent snack, and they are perfect for packing in a lunchbox or for a sweet treat after dinner. Apple Pie Bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days. However, they are best served fresh from the oven, so it's recommended to eat them as soon as possible.

The Conclusion

In conclusion, the Apple Pie Bars Recipes are an excellent dessert that is easy to make, delicious, and satisfying. They are a crowd favorite and can be customized to fit everyone's taste preferences. Be sure to try out the variations and find your favorite way to enjoy these fabulous bars.
Apple pie bars are a classic dessert that is loved by many around the world. It is a convenient recipe that is perfect for any occasion, and it is especially popular during the fall season. You can enjoy the delicious flavors of apple pie without going through the hassle of making a traditional pie. In this article, we will discuss valuable tips to help you make the perfect apple pie bars recipe.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Apples

When it comes to making apple pie bars, the type of apple you choose can make a significant difference in the overall taste and texture of your dessert. Some varieties of apples are better suited for baking than others. For instance, Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples are perfect for baking because they are firm and hold their shape well. They also have a slightly tart flavor that pairs well with the sweetness of the pie filling. On the other hand, red delicious apples are not a good choice for apple pie bars because they tend to get mushy when baked. They also tend to lose their shape, making the filling too watery. Therefore, to get the best apple pie bar result, choose an apple variety that is firm and has a slightly tart flavor.

Tip 2: Use Cold Butter

The butter in your crust is an essential ingredient that contributes to the overall taste and texture of your apple pie bars. When making your pie crust, it is crucial to use cold butter. Cold butter ensures that the dough remains flaky and tender. The heat from your hands can melt the butter, making the dough tough and chewy. One trick to make the butter cold is to cut it into small pieces and place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before using it. This step helps to ensure that the butter stays cold but is still easy to work with.

Tip 3: Preheat Your Oven

Preheating your oven is an essential step when making apple pie bars. A preheated oven ensures that your dessert bakes evenly, resulting in a delicious and evenly cooked dessert. Before you start preparing your apple pie bars, make sure your oven is preheated to the appropriate temperature. If your oven is not preheated, your apple pie bars might not bake correctly, leading to overbaking or underbaking. This step is crucial to achieving the perfect texture and flavors.

Tip 4: Don't Overmix Your Dough

When making the dough for your apple pie bars, it is crucial to avoid overmixing it. Overmixing the dough can lead to gluten development, resulting in a tough and chewy crust. The key is to mix the dough until it is just combined and has formed a cohesive ball. If you notice that your dough is too dry, you can add a tablespoon of ice-cold water to help it come together. Overmixing the dough can result in tough and chewy crust, leading to a less-than-stellar apple pie bar.

Tip 5: Always Line Your Baking Dish

When making apple pie bars, it is essential to line your baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil. This step helps ensure that your dessert does not stick to the dish, making it easy to remove and slice. Additionally, lining the baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil makes cleanup a breeze. You won't have to worry about scrubbing the dish to remove stubborn bits of crust or filling.

Tip 6: Add Spices to the Filling

Adding spices to the apple filling can elevate the flavors of your apple pie bars. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice are classic spices that pair well with the sweetness of the apple filling. These spices add an extra layer of warmth and flavor to your dessert, making it even more delicious. You can also experiment with different spice combinations to create unique and exciting flavors in your apple pie bars.

Tip 7: Let Your Apple Pie Bars Cool Before Cutting

After baking your apple pie bars, it is crucial to allow them to cool completely before cutting them. Cutting into your dessert while it is still hot can cause the filling to run and make the crust soggy. Allowing your apple pie bars to cool completely ensures that they retain their shape and texture. Additionally, letting your apple pie bars cool allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a more delicious and flavorful dessert. You can speed up the cooling process by placing the pan in the fridge for 30-60 minutes.

Conclusion

Apple pie bars are a delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With these valuable tips, you can make the perfect apple pie bars every time. Remember to choose the right apples, use cold butter, preheat your oven, avoid overmixing your dough, line your baking dish, add spices to the filling, and let your apple pie bars cool before cutting them. With these tips, you can impress your guests with your delicious and perfectly textured apple pie bars.
