1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (I use walnuts)
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 eggs
3 cups flour (all purpose or whole wheat)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F; grease a 12-cup Bundt pan or a 10x4-inch tube pan.

  • Combine sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed, 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
  • Alternately add the dry ingredients and the sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Beat well between each addition on low speed.
  • Spread 1/3 of the batter (about 2 cups) in the baking pan. Top with 1/3 of the filling. Repeat this pattern 2 more times, until all batter and filling have been used.
  • Bake at 325°F for 1 hour, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then turnout onto a serving plate and cool completely.
  • To prepare glaze: Mix all ingredients until smooth, then drizzle over cooled coffee cake.

The Ingredients of Apple Nut Coffee Cake

The key ingredients of apple nut coffee cake are apples, nuts, coffee, flour, sugar, butter and eggs. The type of apple used in the recipe can vary depending on personal preference, but Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples are commonly used. Nuts like walnuts, pecans or almonds are added for added crunch and flavor. A freshly brewed cup of coffee or espresso is added to enhance the flavor of the cake. The flour used can be all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour, depending on whether one prefers a lighter or denser cake. Sugar and butter are added to sweeten the cake and provide moisture, while eggs serve as a binding agent.

The Techniques of Making Apple Nut Coffee Cake

To make apple nut coffee cake, one begins by preparing the apples. The apples are peeled, cored and sliced into thin pieces. The nuts are chopped and toasted lightly to enhance their flavor. The coffee is brewed and cooled to room temperature. The dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder and salt) are mixed together in a separate bowl, while the butter and eggs are beaten together in another bowl until they become light and fluffy. The dry ingredients are added to the butter and egg mixture in three parts, alternating with the coffee. The batter is then stirred until it becomes smooth, and the apple slices and nuts are added. The batter is then poured into a greased baking dish and baked in the oven at 350°F for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Once the cake is done, it is allowed to cool to room temperature before serving. Some people like to drizzle a simple glaze made with powdered sugar and milk over the cake for added sweetness.

Apple nut coffee cake is a delicious dessert that is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack. The cake is made with apple filling, nuts, and a rich coffee cake batter that makes it moist and flavorful. If you are looking to make apple nut coffee cake, then you have come to the right place. In this article, we will provide you with valuable tips that will help you create the best apple nut coffee cake recipe.

Tip #1: Use the Right Apples

The success of your apple nut coffee cake recipe depends on the type of apples you use. You need an apple variety that can hold its shape and not turn into mush when baked. Apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Jonagold are great choices because they are firm and tart. Avoid using soft and sweet apples like Red Delicious because they will break apart when baked.

Tip #2: Toast the Nuts

Toasting the nuts enhances their flavor and makes them crunchier. Spread the nuts on a baking tray and bake them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 5 to 7 minutes until they are golden brown. Allow the nuts to cool before chopping them into small pieces.

Tip #3: Do not Overmix the Batter

Overmixing the batter can make the cake tough and dry. Mix the batter until just combined, and do not worry if it has some lumps. Lumps in the batter are a good thing because they will make the cake more tender and moist.

Tip #4: Add the Apples Last

Add the apples to the batter last, after you have mixed in all the dry ingredients. This will prevent the apples from breaking down and turning into mush during the mixing process.

Tip #5: Use a Bundt Pan

A bundt pan is the perfect choice for baking apple nut coffee cake. The pan's unique shape will distribute the heat evenly and ensure that the cake is baked to perfection. The apple nut coffee cake will also look more attractive when baked in a bundt pan.

Tip #6: Grease your Pan

Always grease your bundt pan with butter or cooking spray to prevent the cake from sticking to the pan. Use a pastry brush to spread the butter or cooking spray evenly on all sides of the pan.

Tip #7: Don't Overbake the Cake

Overbaking the cake can make it dry and tough. Check the cake's doneness after about 45 minutes by inserting a toothpick into the center of the cake. If the toothpick comes out clean, then the cake is done. If not, continue baking for a few more minutes until the toothpick comes out clean.

Tip #8: Let the Cake Cool Before Serving

Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. This will allow the cake to set and prevent it from falling apart when serving. Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar before serving.

Conclusion

Making apple nut coffee cake is easy when you know the right tips and tricks. Use tart and firm apples, toast the nuts, don't overmix the batter, add the apples last, use a bundt pan, grease your pan, don't overbake the cake, and let the cake cool before serving. Follow these tips, and you are guaranteed to make a delicious and moist apple nut coffee cake that everyone will love.
