YES, VIRGINIA THERE IS A GREAT MEATLOAF

Yes, Virginia There is a Great Meatloaf image

Absolutely delicious meatloaf and sauce! Those who claim they don't believe there can be such a thing as a great meatloaf will love this. Based on a meatloaf given to me by a dear friend, Virginia Strehl, Memphis, and Leesburg, Fla. Nita Holleman, 2000

Categories     Meatloaf

Time 1h20m

Yield 1 meatloaf, 4-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 lbs ground beef (ground shoulder roast is good)
1 slice bread (broken or chopped finely)
1 egg
1 small vidalia onions or 1 small type sweet onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon table salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 tablespoons ketchup
1/2-2/3 cup whole milk or 1/2-2/3 cup half-and-half
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 -4 tablespoons dark brown sugar, packed firm (to taste)
1/2 cup ketchup

Steps:

  • Meatloaf: Combine meat loaf ingredients and place into a loaf baking dish.
  • Smooth out top.
  • Sauce: Combine sauce ingredients and pour on top and sides of meatloaf.
  • Bake at 350°F about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes or until done.
  • ENJOY!
  • *The addition of 1 or 2 teaspoons of Kitchen Bouquet® makes this recipe very good.
  • **Recipe should be"plump" from the addition of the milk or Half & Half.
  • It should NOT be runny.
  • ***A second batch of sauce served hot is good to serve with the meatloaf.
  • Nita's Note: I note that some of you are using game meat such as deer -- Deer is a very DRY meat. It is wise to HAVE some fat added to the deer -- especially to ground deer. Maybe 25 % fat, ( I recommend 1 lb of ground venison, and 1/2 lb of deer sausage for fat content), otherwise your results will be poor. I don't know about some of the other game meat some are using. Please consult an expert. The recipe is delicious as it stands! Enjoy! Nita Holleman.

Apple meatloaf with cider ketchup recipe is an ideal meal to serve on special occasions. This recipe is easy to make and offers a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. The primary ingredients of the recipe include ground beef, bread crumbs, apples, onions, and ketchup. To make this recipe, you will need to follow some useful tips to ensure that your apple meatloaf with cider ketchup turns out deliciously.

Tips for Making Apple Meatloaf

Choose the Right Ground Beef
When making apple meatloaf with cider ketchup, it is essential to choose the right ground beef. You should ensure that the ground beef has a high fat content (at least 20%). This is because fat helps to keep the meatloaf moist during cooking. Additionally, using ground beef with a high fat content gives the recipe a richer flavor.
Include Vegetables
To make your apple meatloaf with cider ketchup recipe even more nutritious, you can include some veggies. For example, you can add some finely chopped carrots, celery, and mushrooms to the recipe. Vegetables add both flavor and texture to the recipe, making it more enjoyable to eat.
Add Flavor with Spices
Spices are a crucial ingredient in any recipe, and the apple meatloaf with cider ketchup is no exception. Spices not only add flavor to the recipe, but also provide an aroma that enhances its overall appeal. Some of the spices you can add to your apple meatloaf recipe include garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and thyme. Adding spices to your apple meatloaf with cider ketchup recipe will provide a depth of flavor that will make it irresistible.
Use Fresh Apples
When it comes to making apple meatloaf with cider ketchup, it is essential to use fresh apples. Fresh apples provide the recipe with the right amount of sweetness and tanginess. Additionally, fresh apples add a crisp texture to the recipe, which makes the apple meatloaf more enjoyable to eat.
Breadcrumbs and Eggs are Essential
Breadcrumbs and eggs are important ingredients in any meatloaf recipe. Breadcrumbs act as binders and help to hold the meat mixture together. Eggs, on the other hand, provide moisture to the recipe, and also act as binders. Without breadcrumbs and eggs, your apple meatloaf with cider ketchup may fall apart or dry out.
Don't Over Mix the Meat Mixture
When combining the ingredients for your apple meatloaf with cider ketchup recipe, it is essential not to overwork the meat. Overworking the meat mixture can result in a tough, dry, and dense meatloaf. Therefore, gently mix the ingredients until they are evenly distributed, and the meat mixture is just combined.
Use a Meat Thermometer
It is essential to cook your apple meatloaf with cider ketchup recipe to an internal temperature of 160°F. Therefore, invest in a meat thermometer to help you determine when your meatloaf is fully cooked. Insert the meat thermometer into the center of the meatloaf to ensure that the temperature is just right.
Let the Meatloaf Rest
After cooking your apple meatloaf, it is essential to let it rest for at least 10 minutes. Allowing your meatloaf to rest allows the juices to redistribute evenly throughout the meat, making it tender and juicy.
Make Your Own Cider Ketchup
Cider ketchup is a perfect complement to apple meatloaf. Making your own cider ketchup is easy and adds a personal touch to the recipe. To make cider ketchup, you will need apple cider vinegar, tomatoes, onions, sugar, and spices. Simmer the ingredients together until they are reduced to a thick, rich ketchup.

Conclusion

In summary, making apple meatloaf with cider ketchup recipe is easy and straightforward. By using the right ingredients and following the tips discussed above, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that your whole family will enjoy. Remember to choose the right ground beef, add vegetables for extra nutrition, and use fresh apples for the right amount of sweetness and tanginess. Additionally, do not overwork the meat mixture, use a meat thermometer, and let the meatloaf rest after cooking. Finally, make your own cider ketchup for added flavor and a personal touch.
