Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/2 cup butter (at room temperature)
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 medium-sized egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
a pinch of salt
5 medium-sized apples
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup butter (at room temperature)
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Grease and flour a 9.5-inch cake springform pan. You can also line the bottom with parchment paper.
  • Beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract with your hand mixer in a large bowl. Add the egg and beat again.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Add the mixture to the liquid ingredients in small increments while using your hand mixer (and later your hands) on a low setting to avoid the flour from making a mess. You'll have to stop using your mixer about halfway through since the dough will become quite sticky. Just use your hands for the last bit and make sure not to overmix! Stop once everything is well combined and there are no lumps.
  • Take the dough and roll it out with a rolling pin until it is slightly bigger than your springform pan (you'll need it for the edge/crust!). Make sure to put some flour on the surface and on the rolling pin first to avoid unnecessary sticking. Alternatively, you can also flatten the dough with your hands, then place it directly in the springform pan and form it to the bottom of the pan and up the sides (for crust). Make sure the dough has an even thickness and also make sure you have an approximately 1.5 inches high edge along the removable ring part of the springform pan (this is the crust).
  • Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut them into approx. 1/4-1/2 inch-sized cubes. Place the apple cubes into a bowl, add the cinnamon and mix well. Now evenly place the apple cubes over the cake base.
  • For the crumbles, mix butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and flour using your hands (not your mixer!). The dough should be quite crumbly but the flour should be fully mixed in with the other ingredients (there should not be a lot of white flour spots). This might take a couple of minutes. If your dough feels too soft/sticky, add slightly more flour until it reaches the desired consistency (this shouldn't happen though). Rip the dough into small pieces and place it on top of the apples.
  • Bake the cake for approximately 50 - 60 minutes. Since every oven is different, your baking time might vary slightly. Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the springform pan. Remove the cake from the pan once it has cooled sufficiently.

Apfelkloesse, or German apple cake, is a popular dessert in Germany and is enjoyed by people all over the world. It is a delicious dessert that can be served hot or cold and is perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a family gathering, a dinner party or just a regular evening at home. While making an apfelkloesse may seem daunting for some, it is actually a simple dessert that can be made with just a few ingredients. In this article, we will provide some valuable tips to help you make the perfect apfelkloesse German apple cake recipes.

Tip 1: Use the Right Apples

An important factor in making the perfect apfelkloesse is choosing the right apples. You should choose apples that are firm and not too soft, so that they hold their shape during baking. Some types of apples that are great for baking include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady. You can also use a mixture of apples if you prefer.

Tip 2: Use the Right Flour

The type of flour you use in your apfelkloesse recipe is also important. Using the wrong type of flour can result in your cake being too dense or too dry. Use all-purpose flour, which is the most commonly used flour for baking. If you want a lighter and fluffier apfelkloesse, you can also use cake flour.

Tip 3: Use the Right Pan

Choosing the right pan is crucial to the success of your apfelkloesse. Make sure you use a pan that is the right size for your recipe, as this will allow your cake to bake evenly. A 9-inch round cake pan is a good choice for most recipes. You can also use a springform pan, which makes it easier to remove the cake from the pan.

Tip 4: Preheat Your Oven

Always preheat your oven before baking your apfelkloesse. This will help your cake to bake evenly and will prevent it from sinking or cracking. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified in your recipe.

Tip 5: Use Room Temperature Ingredients

Using room temperature ingredients will help your apfelkloesse to rise evenly and will make it easier to mix your ingredients together. Take your butter, eggs, and milk out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before you plan to use them.

Tip 6: Don’t Overmix Your Batter

Overmixing your batter can result in your cake being too dense or chewy. Mix your ingredients together until they are just combined, and then stop. Don’t keep mixing your batter until it’s completely smooth.

Tip 7: Let Your Cake Cool Completely

Allowing your apfelkloesse to cool completely before slicing it is important. This will help it to set and will make it easier to cut. Trying to cut a hot cake can be messy and can result in uneven slices.

Tip 8: Serve with Whipped Cream

Serving your apfelkloesse with whipped cream is a great way to enhance its flavor and add a touch of sweetness. You can also sprinkle some cinnamon on top, which will complement the flavor of the apples.

Tip 9: Store Your Cake Properly

If you have leftovers or want to make your apfelkloesse ahead of time, it’s important to store it properly. Store your cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for up to 1 month.

Tip 10: Experiment with Different Variations

While the traditional apfelkloesse recipe is delicious on its own, there are many variations you can try to make it even more interesting. For example, you can add some chopped nuts or raisins to your batter. You can also try using different types of apples, or even mixing in some pears or berries.
Conclusion
Making the perfect apfelkloesse German apple cake recipes doesn’t have to be complicated. By following these valuable tips, you can create a delicious and impressive dessert that everyone will love. Remember to choose the right ingredients, preheat your oven, and let your cake cool completely before slicing it. With these techniques, you’ll be able to create an irresistible apfelkloesse that will be the talk of the town.
