Air fryer popcorn shrimp is a delightful snack that is quick and easy to prepare. The shrimp is coated in a flavorful mixture of herbs and spices, which gives it a crispy and crunchy texture. The air fryer is an excellent appliance for making popcorn shrimp as it cooks the shrimp quickly and evenly. However, to master the art of making delicious popcorn shrimp in the air fryer, you must know a few tips and tricks. In this article, we will discuss valuable tips for making air fryer popcorn shrimp recipes.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Shrimp

The first thing that you need to consider when making popcorn shrimp is the type of shrimp you use. It is best to use medium-sized shrimp, as they are easier to cook and taste better than larger-sized shrimp. You can use either fresh or frozen shrimp, but make sure to thaw the frozen shrimp in the refrigerator before cooking.

Tip 2: Dry The Shrimp

Before cooking, you must make sure that the shrimp is completely dry. Use a paper towel to pat the shrimp dry to remove any excess moisture. This will ensure that the shrimp cooks evenly and becomes crispy.

Tip 3: Use a Coating

To make your popcorn shrimp crispy and flavorful, you need a good coating. You can either use a premade coating mix or make your own using breadcrumbs, flour, and spices. The coating should be well-seasoned and flavorful to give the popcorn shrimp a crunchy texture and delicious taste.

Tip 4: Preheat the Air Fryer

It is essential to preheat the air fryer before cooking the shrimp. Preheating the air fryer will ensure that the shrimp cooks evenly and quickly. Set the temperature to 380 degrees Fahrenheit and let the air fryer heat for a few minutes before adding the shrimp.

Tip 5: Don't Overcrowd the Air Fryer

To get perfectly cooked popcorn shrimp, you shouldn't overcrowd the air fryer. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket, with some space between each piece. If you overcrowd the basket, the shrimp will not cook evenly, and some pieces may turn out soggy.

Tip 6: spray the Shrimp with oil

Spraying the shrimp with oil before cooking will help them become more crispy. You can use any cooking oil spray or brush some oil directly onto the shrimp with a pastry brush. Do not use too much oil, as it can cause the shrimp to become greasy.

Tip 7: Flip the Shrimp

To get an even cook on the shrimp, you should flip them halfway through the cooking process. This will ensure that both sides of the shrimp are crispy and golden brown. Use tongs to turn the shrimp over carefully.

Tip 8: Check the Temperature

The internal temperature of the popcorn shrimp should reach 145 degrees Fahrenheit to be fully cooked. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the shrimp to make sure they are cooked through. You can also cut into one of the shrimp to check if it's cooked.

Tip 9: Serve Immediately

Popcorn shrimp is best served immediately after cooking. Serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as a classic cocktail sauce or tartar sauce. Allow them to cool for a minute before serving, as the shrimp will be very hot straight from the air fryer.

Conclusion

Making air fryer popcorn shrimp is easy, but there are a few tips and tricks that you should know to make them perfectly every time. Always choose the right size shrimp, dry the shrimp, use a coating, preheat the air fryer, do not overcrowd the basket, spray the shrimp with oil, flip the shrimp, check the temperature, and serve immediately. With these tips in mind, you can make delicious popcorn shrimp that are crispy, golden brown, and full of flavor.
