Air fryer chickpea and red onion burgers are a healthy and delicious option for vegetarians, vegans, and anyone looking to reduce their meat intake. They are easy to make and packed with protein and fiber, making them a satisfying and nutritious meal. To ensure that your burgers turn out perfectly every time, here are some valuable tips to keep in mind.

Tip #1: Use Flavorful Spices

Chickpeas can be bland on their own, so it's important to use flavorful spices to give your burgers a punch of flavor. Some great spice options include cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. You can also use fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley to add freshness and brightness to your burgers.

Tip #2: Mash the Chickpeas Well

To make sure that your burgers hold together well, it's important to mash the chickpeas well. A food processor can make quick work of this step, but you can also use a potato masher or a fork. It's important to leave some texture in the chickpeas, so they don't become a puree. Mash them until they are broken down but still somewhat chunky.

Tip #3: Use a Binding Agent

To ensure that your burgers hold together well, it's important to use a binding agent. Some good options include breadcrumbs, flour, oatmeal, or ground flaxseed. These ingredients help to absorb any excess moisture and provide structure to the burgers. You don't need to use a lot of binding agent, just enough to hold the burgers together.

Tip #4: Chill the Burger Mixture

Once you've mixed all of the ingredients together, it's a good idea to chill the burger mixture for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This allows the flavors to meld together and makes the mixture easier to form into patties. Chilling the mixture also helps the burgers hold together better when cooking.

Tip #5: Form the Patties Carefully

When forming your patties, it's important to be gentle and form them carefully. Don't pack the mixture too tightly, or your burgers may become dense and dry. Form the mixture into patties that are about 1/2 inch thick and 3-4 inches in diameter. If the mixture is too wet, you can add more binding agent. If it's too dry, you can add a little bit of water or oil.

Tip #6: Preheat Your Air Fryer

It's important to preheat your air fryer before cooking your burgers. This ensures that the air fryer is hot enough to cook your burgers properly. Preheat your air fryer to 375F for about 5 minutes before adding your burgers.

Tip #7: Spray Your Burgers With Cooking Spray

To prevent your burgers from sticking to the air fryer basket, it's important to spray them with cooking spray before cooking. This also helps to give your burgers a crispy exterior. You can use non-stick cooking spray or brush the burgers with a little bit of oil.

Tip #8: Flip the Burgers Carefully

When it's time to flip your burgers, do so carefully. Use a spatula or tongs to gently flip the burgers over. If the burgers are too delicate, they may fall apart. After flipping, spray the burgers again with cooking spray to ensure that both sides are crispy and golden brown.

Tip #9: Don't Overcook Your Burgers

Overcooked burgers can become dry and tough. It's important to cook your burgers until they are crispy and golden brown on the outside but still moist on the inside. To check for doneness, use an instant-read thermometer to ensure that the internal temperature of the burgers has reached 165F.

Tip #10: Serve Your Burgers With Toppings

Air fryer chickpea and red onion burgers are delicious on their own, but they are even better when topped with your favorite toppings. Some great topping options include lettuce, tomato, avocado, onion, pickles, jalapenos, or your favorite sauce. Serve your burgers on a bun or with a side salad for a complete meal.
Conclusion
Air fryer chickpea and red onion burgers are a healthy and delicious option that's easy to make. To ensure that your burgers turn out perfectly every time, use flavorful spices, mash the chickpeas well, use a binding agent, chill the burger mixture, form the patties carefully, preheat your air fryer, spray your burgers with cooking spray, flip them carefully, don't overcook your burgers, and serve them with your favorite toppings. These valuable tips will help you make delicious and nutritious burgers that everyone will love.
