Easy and so yummy! Looks like more work than it really is. This is a favorite of our family for the holidays and looks so nice on a tray with other Christmas cookies. The number of servings will depend on how thick you slice them. Enjoy!

Yield 8-10 pinwheels

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 sheet frozen puff pastry (1/2 of a 17oz package)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter (no sub)
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 egg yolk, beaten

Steps:

  • Thaw dough according to package directions.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • On a lightly floured surface, use a floured rolling pin to roll pastry out to an 8x12 inch rectangle.
  • In a small bowl combine sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
  • In a small saucepan melt butter; add raisins and walnuts, stirring until well coated.
  • Spread raisin mixture evenly over pastry.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over raisin mixture.
  • Beginning at one long edge, roll up pastry.
  • Brush egg yolk on long edge to seal.
  • Bake on a greased baking sheet or parchment paper for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool completely.
  • Cut into 1 inch thick slices.

This is a dessert sandwich or maybe a breakfast sammie? I made this for my sandwich challenge.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pkg pillsbury pizza dough
cinnamon sugar mix
powdered sugar for dusting
crushed walnuts (or pecans)
chopped raisins
oil for frying

Steps:

  • 1. pre-heat oil for frying to medium heat prepare a cinnamon sugar mix in a bowl and a powdered sugar bowl to top immediately out of the oil, if they cool it will not adhere.
  • 2. remove dough from can unroll just as it is don't stretch it into a pizza size.
  • 3. put cinnamon sugar mix, raisins and walnuts all over dough.
  • 4. roll like a jelly roll and slice into 3/4" rolls put a toothpick all the way through to keep it from unraveling.
  • 5. carefully place in oil until golden brown, it does not take very long don't burn them, if they cook too hot or too fast adjust oil or the middle will not get cooked. Once removed from oil you must dust immediately or it will not adhere properly. Serve Warm
