These top shelf margaritas use smooth Camarena silver tequila, a hint of Grand Marnier and a lime-forward sour mix for a top shelf margarita that is hard to beat. Note that the measurements for the syrup are by weight.

5.25 oz granulated sugar (about 2/3 cup)
5.25 oz filtered water (about 2/3 cup)
6 oz freshly squeezed lime juice (3/4 cup)
2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice (1/4 cup)
Crushed ice
2 oz your favorite silver tequila, (such as Camarena Silver or similar), (1/4 cup)
.5 oz your favorite orange liqueur, (Grand Marnier preferred) (1 Tablespoon)
5-6 oz sour mix (about 3/4 cup)
Segment of lime
kosher salt or your favorite rimming salt

Steps:

  • Bring water and sugar to a boil. Cool to room temperature.
  • Add freshly squeezed lime and lemon juice.
  • Strain and chill until cold
  • Rim your glasses with lime juice and then kosher salt or your favorite rimmer (optional but recommended)
  • Fill your glass/es with crushed ice. All the way to the top.
  • Stir together the tequila, orange liqueur and sour mix. Start with the lesser amount and add more to taste as needed.
  • Pour over the crushed ice in the glass/es and enjoy slowly.

This was a nice change from the traditional margarita with tequila. The most difficult part to this recipe is squeezing the limes.

6 ounces dry white wine
4 ounces Cointreau liqueur (or triple sec)
10 -12 limes, freshly squeezed
crushed ice
salt, from rims (optional)

Steps:

  • Place the wine, Cointreau and lime juice in a blender.
  • Fill until almost full with crushed ice. Leave about an inch or so at the top.
  • Blend until very slushy.
  • Salt the rims of the margarita/martini glass if desired.
  • Pour margarita into the glass.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge is desired and enjoy.

Finely grated lime zest
Coarse kosher salt
Lime slice or wedge
2 ounces top-shelf tequila (recommended: Cuervo Gold or anejo tequila)
1-ounce orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier or Cointreau)
1 1/2 ounces lime juice, or more, to taste
1 1/2 cups ice cubes

Steps:

  • In a small shallow bowl or rimmed saucer combine the lime zest and salt and mix well. Run the lime slice around the rim of a stemmed, wide mouthed glass to moisten it, then turn the glass upside down and press the rim in the salt mixture. Set glass aside.
  • In a cocktail shaker combine all remaining ingredients and shake well to chill. Strain into the prepared glass and serve immediately.

2 1/2 c premium gold tequila liquor
1 c Grand Mariner liqueur
4 1/3 c water
2 limes
1 container of margarita salt

Steps:

  • 1. Thin slice one lime into circles and put in a glass pitcher. Cut the other one into wedges so you can rub the rim with it prior to rolling into margarita salt.
  • 2. Mix the water and limeade in a clear pitcher. Add the sliced limes tequila and Grand Mariner. Do not add ice to the pitcher, it will dilute quickly.
  • 3. Take a wedge of lime and rub around the rim of a margarita glass.

⅔ cup sugar
⅓ cup water
2 ¼ cups water
1 ½ cups fresh lemon juice
¼ cup sugar
1 egg white
2 cups ice cubes
2 cups premium tequila
1 cup Cointreau
½ cup lime juice
16 lime wedges
coarse kosher salt

Steps:

  • Make a simple syrup by stirring together and bringing 2/3 cup sugar and 1/3 cup water to a boil until the sugar dissolves; set aside to cool.
  • Make the sour mix by briskly stirring together the 2 1/4 cups water, lemon juice, 1/4 cup sugar, and egg white; set aside.
  • Combine the ice cubes, tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, 1 ounce of the simple syrup, and 1/2 cup of the sour mix in a pitcher; stir vigorously to infuse the ice, 8 to 15 seconds.
