This tropical sangria is great at any party, or on a hot day!

1 (750 milliliter) bottle rose wine
1 cup pineapple juice
½ cup vodka
¼ cup triple sec
½ cup simple syrup
1 orange, sliced into rounds
1 lemon, sliced into rounds
1 lime, sliced into rounds
1 (6 ounce) container fresh raspberries

Steps:

  • Combine wine, pineapple juice, vodka, triple sec, and simple syrup in a large bowl or pitcher. Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour.
  • Stir the oranges, lemons, limes, and raspberries into the chilled sangria at least 30 minutes before serving. The longer the fruit marinates the better. Serve over ice.

This drink is wonderful to serve to friends -- the red wine floats on top of the pale green limeade, making a beautiful two-tone presentation. The "cooking" time is actually the time for refrigerating the limeade mixture before making the cocktails.

2 teaspoons finely shredded lime peel
1 cup lime juice
3/4 cup sugar
750 ml pinot noir wine
1 nectarine, pitted and sliced

Steps:

  • In a 1-quart glass measuring cup, combine lime peel, lime juice and sugar; add water to equal 4 cups. Stir to dissolve sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • To serve, place ice cubes in six 16-ounce glasses. Add 2/3 cup of the lime juice mixture to each glass. Add 1/2 cup of wine to each glass, being sure to pour it gently along the side of the glass to keep the colors of the limeade and the wine separated. Thread a nectarine slice on regular or party skewers and add one skewer to each glass. Serve immediately.

3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons spiced dark rum
3 tablespoons Cointreau liqueur (or other orange liqueur)
1 navel orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
2 ripe peaches, cut into wedges
3 ripe plums, cut into wedges
2 cinnamon sticks
750 ml red wine (try to use Rioja red wine)
sparkling soda water (for topping off sangria at the table)

Steps:

  • Combine sugar, rum, orange liqueur, fruits and cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher. Cover with 1 bottle of the Rioja wine and chill sangria for several hours.
  • To serve, spoon fruits into glasses. Pour in the sangria and top off with a splash of soda water.

To serve, place ice in six 16-ounce glasses. Add 2/3 cup of the lime juice mixture to each glass. Pouring along side of glass, slowly add 1/2 cup wine. Thread nectarine slices on skewers and add to glasses. Serves 6.
