Bread Machine Sour Cream and Vanilla Bread image

Almost like a pound cake, this bread machine sensation is light, golden and irresistible!

1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/3 cup sour cream
1 egg
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
3 cups Gold Medal™ Better for Bread™ flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons bread machine or quick active dry yeast

Steps:

  • Measure carefully, placing all ingredients in bread machine pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Select Sweet or Basic/White cycle. Use Light crust color. Do not use delay cycle. Remove baked bread from pan, and cool on wire rack.

1/2 cup water, plus
1 tablespoon water
1 cup sour cream
3 1/2 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
2 teaspoons gluten
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons fast rising yeast (or 2 1/2 t. bread machine yeast)
3/4 cup water, plus
1 tablespoon water
1 1/4 cups sour cream
4 1/3 cups bread flour
1 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tablespoon gluten
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon fast rising yeast (or 1 T plus 1/2 t bread machine yeast)

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to the pan according to the order in the manufacturer's directions, with the water and the sour cream put in first, and adding the dry ingredients in on top.
  • Set crust on medium and program for the basic cycle; press Start.
  • When the baking cycle ends, immediately remove the bread from the pan and place it on a rack; let cool to room temperature before slicing.

After trying a lot of really bland white bread recipes for bread makers, I found this one in the original Black and Decker book that came with my machine. It's by far the best recipe I've tried. The bread tastes like a fresh bakery loaf and is almost impossible to resist hot out of the machine with butter. Enjoy!

3/4 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/4 white flour
1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Steps:

  • 1. Pop all the ingredients into the baking pan.
  • 2. I use "Regular Light Crust" setting but recipe calls for "French Bread" setting.
  • 3. Press start and hang around the machine asking, "Is it done yet? Is it done yet?" for a couple of hours.
  • 3. Try not to eat a slice the second you take it out of the machine.

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans or 1/2 cup walnuts
1/4 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Cream together butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add egg, stirring until blended.
  • Add flour, baking powder, and salt gradually to butter mixture, alternating with additions of sour cream.
  • Beat mixture just until blended, and add vanilla.
  • In a small bowl, mix together pecans, brown sugar, 1 tbsp of sugar, and cinnamon.
  • Pour half of batter into a greased and floured loaf pan, and sprinkle with half of streusel mixture.
  • Pour remaining batter on top, and sprinkle with remaining streusel mixture.
  • Bake at 350°F for 45-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle removes clean (if loaf starts to brown excessively, cover with foil during last 15 minutes of baking).
  • Cool in pan 10 minutes, then remove and finish cooling on wire rack.
