Whole Wheat Pancakes image

This is altered from the "Good Old Fashioned Pancakes" recipe at allrecipes.com. It has a decided tendency to come out thick. This was an issue with the original, too, and I'm still working on fixing it. If it comes out thick, add milk in 1/4 cup increments to desired thickness. Number Of Ingredients 10

3/4 c all purpose flour
3/4 c whole wheat flour
3 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt (i frequently use only 1/2 tsp to cut sodium)
1 Tbsp white sugar (alternative sweeteners are viable options for this--sweeten to taste)
1 1/4 c milk
1 egg
1 1/2 Tbsp butter (or vegetable oil/shortening)
1 1/2 Tbsp applesauce
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, sift together flour(s), baking powder, salt, and sugar. Make a well in the center.
  • 2. In a separate bowl combine the rest of the ingredients.
  • 3. Pour liquid ingredients into well of dry ingredients.
  • 4. Mix until smooth.
  • 5. Heat a lightly oiled grittle over meduim/medium-low heat.
  • 6. Pour or scoop batter onto griddle in roughly 1/4 cup increments.
  • 7. Brown on both sides and serve.
