WHEN WE DIDN,T HAVE MEAT LOAF, WE HAD STUFFED PEPPERS.I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH ONE I LOVED BEST....

6 large green bell peppers
1 pound(s) ground chuck
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup(s) chopped,celery
1 clove(s) garlic , minced
1 can(s) 8 oz. tomato paste
1 large tomato ,peeled,seeded and chopped
3 cup(s) soft bread crumbs, toasted ( 4 slices bread)
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper

Steps:

  • WASH PEPPERS AND CUT IN HALF LENGTHWISE. REMOVE SEEDS AND MEMBRANES. COOK THE PEPPER HALVES UNCOVERED IN BOILING WATER FOR 5 MIN. INVERT TO DRAIN.SPRINKLE THE INSIDES OF PEPPERS LIGHTLY WITH SALT.
  • IN A LARGE SAUCEPAN COOK GROUND CHUCK WITH ONION,CELERY,AND GARLIC UNTILL MEAT IS BROWN AND ONION IS TENDER. DRAIN OFF FAT
  • STIR BREAD CRUMBS, TOMATO ,TOMATO PASTE,SALT AND PEPPER INTO MEAT MIXTURE, STUFF PEPPERS WITH MEAT MIXTURE
  • PLACE STUFFED PEPPERS IN A BAKING DISH . BAKE UNCOVERED IN A 350* OVEN FOR 30 TO 35 MIN. OR UNTIL HOT : TO TOAST BREAD CRUMBS, SPREAD CRUMBS EVENLY IN A SHALLOW BAKING PAN' BAKE AT 350* ABOUT 10 MIN. OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN.
  • NOTE : RICE AND CHEESE CAN ALSO BE ADDED TO THIS DISH ALSO YOU CAN TOP WITH TOMATO SAUCE ABOUT 10.MIN BEFORE TAKING OUT OF THE OVEN.
