Spicy Turkey Chili image

I love making chili. It's a go to meal for me. Over the years I have created many different types. This is a lean healthy choice with low sodium and pretty basic ingredients. Leave out the wine or add more it still tastes great! I always serve cornbread, corn chips and hot dogs so the kids can make chili dogs if they want to...Yum!

1 medium yellow onion
1 medium green bell pepper
1 medium red bell pepper

2 tablespoon(s) onion powder
2 tablespoon(s) garlic powder
2 teaspoon(s) black pepper
1 tablespoon(s) red pepper flake
1 tablespoon(s) mccormick chili mix **optional
1 can(s) rotel tomatoes & green chilis
1 can(s) diced green chilis
1 can(s) fire roasted tomatoes
1 can(s) chili beans
1 can(s) red kidney beans
1 can(s) white navy beans
1/4 cup(s) red wine
1 cup(s) water
pinch(es) salt and pepper to taste
2-3 tablespoon(s) tomato paste
1/3 jar(s) pickled jalapeno ** optional

Steps:

  • In large skillet brown ground turkey or brown in crockpot on high for 25-30 minutes. Meanwhile dice all veggies and open all canned items.
  • Add ground turkey, diced veggies, canned items, seasonings and liquids to large stock pot and simmer for 2 hours on medium heat. Or Add all ingredients to crockpot and cook on low 4-6 hours. This gets better the longer you cook it.
  • **McCormick Chili Mix was used since I ran out of chili powder. **chopped jalapeno peppers to make it a bit more spicy is optional **The kids always top their chili with sourcream & chives & Fritos Corn Chips These tips kick up the flavor profile a bit.
