Rose's Anise(Black Licorice) Ricotta Pie image

If you like the taste of black licorice this is the pie for you. Grandma Lucia's recipe and I tweeked it. She lived to be 3 months short of 100 yrs. old, still making this pie. She'd be so proud. Enjoy.

Number Of Ingredients 17

l lb. and a little more ricotta (whole milk)
2 Tbsp melted butter
2 Tbsp sour cream
4 extra large eggs
1/3 c sugar or a little more if u like sweeter
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp anise extract
a pinch of cinnamon
lemon rind of 1 lemon
CRUST
2 c all purpose flour
a pinch of baking powder
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 c butter (softened)
2 Tbsp shortening
1 large egg
3 or 4 Tbsp cold water

Steps:

  • 1. In a 10" pie plate....Mix flour, baking power,butter,shortening by hand form a well put in egg and cold water mix until dough forms...you may have to add cold water by tablespoon to mix thoroughly. Roll out crust and place into pie plate, fork bottom.
  • 2. Filling: Mix all ingredients together in mixer until smooth. Place into unbaked pie crust. Place in oven at 350 for l hour 15 minutes or until middle of pie does not shake, test. While done, open door of the oven, turn off and let rest 10 or 15 minutes in the oven. Remove, enjoy.
