Rice A Roni (Rice Cooker) image

This is an excellent rice side dish made in your rice cooker. 1. Use beef broth in place of chicken broth. 2. Use mushroom broth in place of chicken stock, and add sautéed mushrooms. 3. Add cooked chopped chicken. 4. In place of orzo, use broken spaghetti in ½ to 1 inch lengths.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup(s) dry jasmine rice
1/3 cup(s) dry orzo pasta
2 tablespoon(s) butter
2 cup(s) chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon(s) dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon(s) onion powder
1/4 teaspoon(s) ground turmeric
1 teaspoon(s) dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt

Steps:

  • Add the butter to the rice cooker pot and place on Cook. Melt the butter then add the orzo. Cook the orzo for a few minutes, stirring often, until starting to brown, it will smell like pop corn. (If you do not have orzo, just break up spaghetti into 1/2 inch pieces, works just as well.)
  • Add the rinsed rice, broth, and seasonings. Stir together. Cover and let the rice cooker complete the cook cycle.
  • When the cooker switches to Warm, remove lid, fluff rice, serve as a side dish and enjoy.
