Quaker Punch image

Quakers abhor violence, and many abjure alcohol, although most believe in 'temperance' rather than 'abstinence'. However, they have no objections to double entendres. This is a lovely, refreshing summer time drink. I made it by the gallon for an August wedding last year and it was a big hit.

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 sprigs of fresh mint
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
2 tea bags
3 1/2 cups boiling water
2 cups cold water
1/2 cup sugar
3 lemons, juice of
3 oranges, juice of

Steps:

  • Bruise the mint.
  • Add the ginger and teabags.
  • Pour over the boiling water, cover and steep for 6 or 7 minutes.
  • Strain and discard the solids.
  • Meanwhile, heat the remaining water and sugar just until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Mix with the tea brew.
  • Add the juice of the lemons and oranges, and strain.
  • Serve chilled, over ice.
  • (I don't mind chunky drinks, so I don't bother to strain it the second time).
