Porter House Rolls image

My mother was an amazing woman, but the kitchen was not her favorite place. Every year, Thanksgiving and Christmas, she would make these amazing rolls. I am on a mission to reproduce that recipe because she is gone and no one can find the darn recipe. This one is: http://orangesandbiscuits.blogspot.com/2008/11/grandma-hattons-porterhouse-rolls.html

Yield 30 Rolls, 30 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 (1/4 ounce) packages dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup scalded milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup oil
2 teaspoons salt
2 eggs, beaten
4 -5 cups flour

  • Mix together first 3 ingredients & let stand 20 minutes in warm room for yeast to bloom.
  • Mix next 5 ingredients together well. Then add yeast mixture and eggs, stir well, add flour, then knead until smooth. Add just enough flour to make a soft dough that can be handled well.
  • Let rise to double in size.
  • Roll out and cut into biscuits. Cut half way through each one and dip in melted butter. Fold over half way.
  • Let rise in pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until brown.
