Perfect Sugar Cookies image

The BEST sugar cookies you will ever make. Great for cut-outs & decorating! They can be soft or crispy, depends on how thick you roll them out. Every time I bring these cookies somewhere new, I'm ALWAYS asked for the recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup(s) butter, softened
1 1/2 cup(s) sugar
3 - eggs
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
3 1/2 cup(s) all purpose flour
2 teaspoon(s) cream of tartar
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt

Steps:

  • Cream butter, sugar, eggs & vanilla till smooth.
  • In a separate bowl combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda & salt.
  • Add dry mixture to wet mixture in small amounts until all incorporated.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour. (overnight is better)
  • Preheat oven to 325F. On a clean floured surface, roll out small portions of chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are barely brown.
  • Cool. Decorate. Enjoy!
