old time recipe; oldie but goodie.. When I was growing up in the 1940s we didn't have a lot of money. We had a hugh garden, & we canned any extra vegetables for winter. We also gathered apples form our orchard & butternuts. ( Which you don't see much anymore) Mom always bought a couple of bushels of peaches in the fall which we...

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 c flour
3 c white sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 c whole milk
1-1/2 c vegetable shortning
6 whole eggs
l tsp vanilla extract
1/2 c butternuts chopped..( i now use walnuts)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl& beat for 5 minutes or until well mixed.
  • 2. Pour into a lightly greased 10 inch tube pan.Bake for about 70 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • 3. Cool cake in pan on a cooling rack. then flip out of pan. Best served at room temperature or slightly chilled. Serve with slicd peaches, strawberries or fuit of your choice.
