Mom's Apple Pie image

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 cups thinly sliced apples (usually a bag of macs or granny smith will do)
tsp 1/2 to 1 nutmeg and cinnamon (go by smell, I like to be able to smell these spices)
Dash of salt
cup 1/2 to 3/4 sugar (this depends on whether you want pie sweet or tart, check taste of apples)
2 tablespoons flour
1 pie crust
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Topping: (If you want extra topping, you can double, I do.)
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cups butter or margarine, firm
3/4 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Put sliced apples in large bowl. Mix spices, sugar and flour together and add to apples. Toss well. Put into pie crust. Dot apples with butter.
  • Mix topping ingredients together until crumbly. Top apples.
  • Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 400 degrees F or until juice begins to bubble through topping.
