Molasses Baked Beans image

This was my grandmother's recipe from the 1950s. Slow cooked, flavor infused beans, more like a main dish than a side dish. Excellent for family gatherings and pot lucks!

3/4 lb ground beef
32 oz pork and beans
16 oz barbeque beans
1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
1/2 c green bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1/2 c red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1 1/2 c dark brown sugar, packed
3/4 c molasses
1/2 c ketchup
1 Tbsp prepared yellow mustard
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tsp seasoned salt
1/2 tsp lemon-pepper seasoning
5 slice bacon

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • 2. Stir fry ground beef just until browned; drain well.
  • 3. Combine all ingredients except for the bacon. Mix well.
  • 4. Pour into a 13x9x2 ovenproof baking dish and lay the bacon strips on the top.
  • 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.
