Marble Squares image

Used to make these years ago and just started making them again. Again, from the Philly Cream Cheese cookbook! The recipe calls for a jelly roll pan which I haven't had in years , so I just use a 9x13 pan. SOOO yummy. Again , eating smaller squares means less guilt! This is a favorite of my co-workers too. Hope you enjoy it!

8 oz softened cream cheese
2 1/3 c sugar
3 eggs
3/4 c water
1/2 c margarine
1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 c flour
1/2 c sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
6 oz semi sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl, combine 1/3 cup sugar and softened cream cheese until well blended.
  • 2. Blend in one egg.
  • 3. In a sauce pan, combine water, margarine, and chocolate squares;bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  • 4. Add (to chocolate mixture) combined remaining sugar and flour, mixing well.
  • 5. Blend in remaining eggs, sour cream, baking soda and salt.
  • 6. Pour into greased jelly roll pan (15x10) OR 9x13 pan.
  • 7. Spoon cream cheese mixture over chocolate batter, cutting through with a knife several times for marble effect.
  • 8. Sprinkle with chocolate chip pieces.
  • 9. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • 10. Cool and cut into squares.
