Number Of Ingredients 6

140 g of Wholemeal Flour
200 g of Plain Flour + extra for dusting
1/2 tsp of Salt
1 tsp of Bicarbonate of Soda
30 g of Melted Butter
280 ml to 300ml of Buttermilk

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 200C. Add wholemeal flour, plain flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda in a large mixing bowl. Mix well! 2. Make a well in the center of flour mixture. Stir in melted butter along with buttermilk, just sufficient to form a loose sticky dough. The dough should not be too wet. 3. Turn dough onto a lightly-floured work surface. Dough should be slightly sticky. Flour your hands and knead for one minute. Shape into a round and slightly-flattened dough. 4. Place dough onto a lightly-floured baking tray. Flour the handle of a wooden spoon and cross the dough deeply without cutting through. 5. Sprinkle some flour onto the dough and bake for 30 minutes or until bread is brown and sound hollow when knocked. 6. Serve with butter and jam!
